Project Nova - V4 Harley?
« on: April 09, 2009, 10:35:27 PM »

In the latest Cycle World on Page 24 they talk about a project called Nova.  I guess harley played with a V4 right before the Brunswick buyout.  They even have a picture of it..  They speculate this may power the 2010 or 2011 CVO's?

All I am doing is repeating the article...

Here is a photo of an ’81 Nova taken at H-D’s Museum. The heat exchanger is under the seat. The fairing from this machine ended up on the FXRT in 1983.

Looks about like any Japanese V4, especially the '94 Magna.  I see that they kept the idea of putting a heat exchanger under the seat on the 110 touring CVOs.  If they bring it back just imagine: Four cams to have bearing problems, a new fluid to leak, two more liners to move...

we are more likely to see some moto guzzi tech coming into the touring line up, i think we wont see  much change in the softail or sportster motors in the near future, oil cooling the heads must be the way to go for harley with the use of a bit of Buell techno. IMHO

H-D’s XR1200 is an air cooled application incorporating independent oil galleys in the heads designed specifically for cooling and not lubrication. Is there an air cooled Buell with a similar configuration?

It wouldn’t surprise me to see some Italian tech filter through to the US market. MV Agusta is not part of the Piaggio Group, so it is unlikely that Milwaukee would have free access to Guzzi’s intellectual property. For what it’s worth, H-D’s new President from MV Agusta is a long term H-D employee.
