security pager
« on: October 21, 2005, 06:18:55 AM »

I purchased & installed a security pager a couple of months ago but only just found out it is not working properly. It is supposed to have a working range of up to 400 yards, but mine has a range of 4 feet! has anyone had this problem. Does any one have one installed?

I have one installed. I have no problems with it. Make sure that the antenna is not bunched up.Mine creates a lopp around my battery box. Hope that helps.

Thanx Scott,
But already have the loop, must have a fault in the transmitter.

Which model do you have as far as the pager? The newer model (looks like mini-cell phone) or the one that looks like a typical pager? The new one is only compatible with the replacement siren/transmitter/antenna module. I installed one of the new ones last week and it is good for maybe 1/2 - 3/4 mile, it uses an FM transmitter with is of course a 'line-of-sight' affair. Mine (new  model) works a great deal better than the older model, which was basically useless in my testing. I yanked it out of my FLTRSEI. The newer model is a cinch to install, at least on the Road King.

CVOjoe,
What else do you need to install/purchase besides the little phone style pager?

Yes, the old security pager system (91665-03) was really a less than optium product (to be politically correct).

For '02-06 Touring models: the Smart Siren II (678328-06) and Pager/Receiver II (91660-06) are what's needed. The new siren contains the pager transmitter and antenna that were separate units on the old pager system above. I had to wait maybe 2 weeks after ordering for mine and it had a mfg date code of 1October 2005  (China).

For Aussie Mike:the Fatboy needs Smart Siren II 68328-06. The same Pager/Receiver II works for all models. It even includes. But you should check with local dealer on application there, as they have the usual disclaimer "certified for use in North America." Perhaps you have a different catalog down under ?

These items are both on page 758 of the 2005 catalog and the old security pager system is still in the catalog on the previous page, but it should be dropped from the inventory. The install is a snap and so far I'm happy with the improvement over the old system.

Cheers! [smiley=drink.gif]

You're welcome. Perhaps you can also look at ordering one from Chicago H-D. However whether or not they'll ship overseas is another story. They generally offer 15-20% off the catalog. Perhaps it's a legal/frequency issue down under ?
If you'd like a scanned pic from the USA Catalog or the instruction sheet for the Smart Siren II let me know and I'll do it up for you. The Pager/ReceiverII comes with a small handbook of about 8 pages, and I can also scan that one in as well. If you'd like copies, send me a PM with your email address and I'll get them off to you tomorrow.
Cheers!  [smiley=drink.gif]

CVO,
Yes I believe you'll need both the new 'Smart Siren II" and the little pager/receiver to work properly. Not positive on this, but it appears that H-D changed the frequency or something on the new set up to improve it, I know they had a lot of complaints on the lack of range and intermittent operation on the older version. It's really a snap to pull out the old siren, drop in the new one and velcro the antenna along the frame, then button it up and synch the new pager system to the alarm system, etc.

CVOJOE,

Went down to my local stealer today & made some inquries about the new pager. They gave me a price of $340 AUD & about 6 weeks until delivery. So I decided to order one from Chicago Harley. Could not believe the price $127.92 USD for the two items (book price is $159.90 USD) I guess with import duty, tax & freight the total cost will be around $200 USD & hopefully only about 2 weeks until delivery.

Way to go, hope it works out for you. It's an easy install, at least on the RK. Too bad they won't ship it as a gift or sample, etc. to avoid paying the penalties there.
Cheers!
