New 16" KW Shield on the way.
« on: April 14, 2009, 07:41:51 AM »

Spoke with Klock Werks last week, they have a 16" clear and light tinted windshield listed on their site but no pics. The rep said the product was still at the testing facility but he would send me some prototype pics (posted here). After receiving the pics I thought they looked decent enough for me to buy one and be the guinea pig. I'll let you all know how it works. It should be here sometime this week. Keep your fingers crossed.

Looks nice.  However so far there are quite a few that look nice but have to much buffeting by the ears and helmet.

Lets us know after you ride with it.

I don't think there's a difference.  Same front fairing.

That shield looks very similar to a Clearview.

Wolfman,

How does the new KW shield perform at 70 mph?  Any buffeting, or increased noise that is seen with other KW shields?

Do they provide a substitute gasket?

I have the KW 12" which was passable for around town, only.  Was $169 and fair quality.

The KW web site says $299 for the 16".  That's nuts and I don't mean peanuts.  STLkid, the pic looks pretty much

like a Clearview GT Small which is more than $100 less...  and of excellent quality.  :nixweiss:  What am I missing???

Wolfman,

I would love to hear what you think after you ride it.  I really want to know about wind and buffetting at 60 mph and above.

Just checked UPS tracking and my shield should arrive today. Hopefully, I get off work in time to get home and install it so I can get some decent miles in to test it. Will send update tonight.

No substitute gasket, I believe you just don't use the gasket at all. It would seem to me that you would damage the shield by not using something. I used the stock gasket when I tried the 12" KW and in doing so was not able to use the chrome trim piece that I had. This is one of the reasons I was considering a CB because they designed their windshield to go with the CVO gasket but after hearing some bad experiences I had decided to wait a bit. I am liking the looks of the Kuryakyn windshield and hear it is 21" long which sounds like alot but has a nice rake back towards the driver more than most. It seems to me that possibly part of the problem with some of these winshields is while they are 14", 15", or 16" tall they are too verticle and the air pocket collapses quickly back around it. But what do I know....  :nixweiss: ;D

It's just my opinion, but a tall windshield on a fixed fairing make it look too much like a Gold Wing.
