REMOVE Saddlebag Guards
« on: April 15, 2009, 06:04:21 AM »

Another post discussed passenger discomfort due to the guards.  Replacing parts (paying twice) on the most expensive HD offered is getting old real fast.  I love the look of the bike without the guard and would give the passenger more room.  The support structure looks like it still can support the saddlebag with it removed.  I am aware there would be safety issues with this, but I had been riding a bike for the past 15 years that did not have the saddlebag guards at all!  Thanks!

Just once lay a bike down and happen to looking at your leg under the bike as it comes down on the front and rear crash guard as you then slide harmlessly away from each other.  After that you'll never consider not putting them on a bike without nor removing them from a bike with.  But taking them off does look cool....

That's why I added them to my 09 SERG.  Figure I'll drop it someday and they'll help protect the bags and me if I'm moving.

OK.  Valid point.  What can one do to make the guards more comfortable for the passenger?

I to had to have those off. Lil-Bit ain't called that for nothing and they were a pain in her legs. Got a set for a road glide and gave the old set to a friend that had the full guard style on his road king. I believe it looks way better now. Against what everyone here told me I did it anyway, don't antisapate dropping it, I don't wear a proper helmet either. Was also told I was a fool to lower it, did it and love it. I am a true believer in safe riding, but my scooter has to look good!

Harley offers a different rear crash bar angled such that it doesn't come up under the passenger's legs as closely.  Called a "Comfort Profile" bar.  They have it for 97-08 models and 09 models.  Check this link:

I probably know the answer (so you will buy a different one), but why in the world would HD make an "uncomfortable" version and especially put the non-comfy style on a $35K bike?

Mike, I think CUS's bike is an 09 so he'd not be able to use them.  If that turns out to be the case I'd offer appropriate beers, postage, $$$, etc.  Would like to put the lower profile crash guards on the SERG to keep them under Parker's legs a little better.

My bike is an 09 CUSE.  I'll still buy you that beer as you're a stand up guy for making the kind offer.  I am in VT.  Great riding - come on out!  I have family not too far from Joplin and I do get out to MO once in a while.  You're a good guy for offering them up.  Good karma comes back to you ten fold!  Thanks man! :drink:

There's always beer here CUS.  So if you're within range give a shout.  Will put ice and beer in a saddlebag and head out :2vrolijk_21: .
