    • CVO1: 09" SERG O&B
Dillema
« on: April 15, 2009, 06:36:36 AM »

I was all set to get me a new SERG.  I was going to trade my 08' Rg in on it. It was going to cost me about 20 out of pocket plus improvements, tourpak, lowers etc. I was supposed to get the bike on Monday but the dealer that my dealer was getting it from sold it to a guy that had it on hold. So now I have more time to think about it before they get another one.

Yesterday I sent off my first installment to support our government in their quest to set records on spending. In the morning I heard my governor and my local representative say screw you to the US government. I have recently convinced myself that things were starting to settle down and it was OK to buy my new bike.

Now between my deposit to the FEDS and the fact that I am living in a state that maybe the next allie of the USSA I am thinking that adding a few grand to my 08' might be the best thing to do. Somebody convince me otherwise. Thanks, T.

Bottom line to me is it is your money, but it is want not economics.  Are the changes on the '09 worth whatever dollar figure it will take to get them?  Does the bike handle many thousands of dollars better?  It is almost impossible to come out ahead buying new vs. updating, especially on a year old bike.  People point out what I could save by getting a vehicle that gets twice the mileage of what I have - over five years it would be a little less than the sales tax in my state and adding in property tax I'd never break even.   I think we've just seen the start of what Borat Osama is creating in the USSA, so for me to buy anything it has to be with cash, and only once I've saved it up - no dipping into reserves.   I just mailed my wealth redistribution stimulus too, so I may be a bit cynical at the moment.

When all else fails, flip a coin.  You usually know on which side you are hoping it will land.  There's your answer.

Where do you live? I know a dealer in SC that has a silver SERG on the floor, they are motivated, and you wont pay over list on it- If you can get your deposit back, go buy one elsewhere.

The last shipments of the 09 CVO bikes are going to the dealers in May.  Most of the dealers already know how many (if any) they are getting.  Shop around, you should be able to find what you want.  The Denver area has 4 dealers within 50 miles and every one of them is getting at least one more CVO bike in May.

Big-T,

Agree with Doc, " You only live once, if you can afford it, buy it. Life is to short."  If you ride hard or like the twisties.... you'll love the '09.  Had a built 04 RG and loved it.  The SERG is much better.  Very planted in the turns.  Try reading some of those threads...  Better, test an 09.  They'll let you ride the RG but probably not a SERG.  If you like the RG... you'll LOVE the SERG.

I'm like others on the list here - if you can afford it - BUY IT, there isn't much we can do about the ecomony.  After I had the 06 RG and went to 09 SERG, it was money well spent and then some for what I have spent already on the 09.  I thought about doing "MORE" to the 06 then thought, I'll never honestly get what its worth.  When it came to dealing and dickering, it was a wash to trade or keep the 06 RG.  I honestly don't know if I was to keep the 06 RG if I would have rode it much after the difference between the two bikes.   :orange: :orange:

I bought my previous HD for 12k, rode it for 8 yrs, sold it for 8k. That's about $45 / month. My current bike will resell for almost what I paid since it's an SE model. Go buy the dang thing.

I have owned 3 Harley's #1 Bought new and rode for 4 years 18,000 miles sold for $300 less than I paid for it
#2 Bought new and rode for 5 years 39,000 miles sold for $3000 less than I paid for it

so being this was over 6 years it cost me around $50 a month to ride, when a Screaming Eagle Ultra was available I jumped on it and love it.
