cvo mufflers
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:45:26 PM »

Does anyone know if the cat mufflers from pre 09 SEUC will fit on an 09 SEUC. Something that crossed  my mind since there is a rumor going around that the state of california might start smogging motorcycles in 2012. And since a lot of us are removing the cat in the head pipe it could come back to bite us later. Thanks in advance CAHDBIKER

While it is a concern, I doubt the The Peoples Republic of California is going to start smogging motorcycles anytime soon, they r laying State employees off left and right, deficits everywhere and the machinery to do the smogging is just too expensive and it is npot a big revenue producer. ANd of course a friend of a friend said he knows it is not in the 10 yr business plan. but who am I? I am the Chanman, coo-coo-a chew

Since when did a lack of money preclude our idiot legislators from passing costly laws?  We have a 20 billion dollar deficit, they're asking us to vote to increase taxes, and this legislation is currently in committee (SB 435.)  I wouldn't bet against it, but I hope your friend is right.

I guess that it would be no big deal ,
every biker has to pay the emission-control , so no extra costs for the state .
( like in germany )

Keep your cat header, or find a set of the CAT take offs- to keep in the attic until that day comes.

I wouldnt put it past CA (and other states to follow) to implement MC emissions testing- sooner than later. California is broke- and looking for revenue. CARB (a socialist revenue sucking entity) will do what ever they can to get more money to strengthen their directives. Think about how many registered bikes are in CA: (750,000 registered bikes in 2007) and mulitiply that by the fee; seems to me that they would step it up sooner than later.

And before I get off my political soap box: CARB is a template agency that many states are looking to follow as the benchmark for how to implement more controls and get more tax revenue- stay tuned in to your local gov't to make sure that doesnt take hold near you- it will kill the powersports business.

Here in germany we do have emission-control every two years .
I spoke with the technical master of the dealer`s service whether it would be a problem when removing the cat ,
He told me that the control is based on the 4.5 of the emission-volume and thet this 4.5 never will be reached , even without a cat , so the non-cat-header will not even be recognized by them .
