Pins
« on: October 29, 2005, 12:59:33 AM »

Striker, in his continuing efforts on our behalf has expressed some interest in continuting to make us look good.  First the business cards, then the patches; now after his fall riding season winds down it looks like he'll tackle shirts of some style as a next project.

That's not all that could be in the works though.  Another of our brethren is buddies with a pin maker.  That's right; those pointed things that scratch your nipples through your t-shirt when the keepers come off.  Pins!

CVOJoe has put some time in to gathering details with his buddy on this.  We all owe Joe an "attaboy" for making contact and putting us in touch with someone who doesn't just do this work but does it well.  The first three of the pins shown below for polling purposes are his specific work.  He's submitted copies previously of pins akin to the others.  But I'd lost those images.  These will at least illustrate the types.

Below will be five different pins.  This first post on the topic is just to get opinions on a favored "style" of pin.  Content we'll worry with after we know a style type.  So don't worry yet about what it will look like specific to us.  Worry only about what it will look like generally.

As you can guess, everything at this point is very preliminary.  Since one of the first questions is always going to be "what's it going to cost?" there has been a bit of homework done.  From what's been learned so far it seems that with an order of 100 pieces we should be less than $5.00 per pin delivered to your door.  Final art may make it vary just a bit of course.  But that'll be a ballpark figure for you to consider.

The following are submitted only for your broad first impressions.  Don't worry about future content or even a great lot of the subtle details between the options.  Just first impression; which do you like best?  Cast your vote accordingly.

If I could make a suggestion. Alot of the pins that I have seen are somewhat large but only have one pin in the back causing the pin to never stay straight and twist upside down etc. Is it possible to make sure there are at least two poles on the back?

All the pins that we're looking at as far as samples have two pins on the back. Good point though, almost like to trying to read the oil temp gauge at night and find it's upside down.....operator error.  ;D

What a coincidence! Two of the pins you guys are using for samples are from my dealership. That would be Sauk Prairie H.D. here in Wisconsin. They put on a great Freedom Ride for the M.D.A.

Pins on the back? I don't like 'em, especially on my vest.

I put double stick tape on the pins, the 3M molding adhesive stuff is pretty good. Then after pushing it on good and tight I use a small pair of needle nose pliers to bend the pin. You can't bend it at the base, it'll break off. I put a small bend on the end of the pin back into the vest-jacket to keep from getting hung up. Works pretty good.

Those turned out to be examples because the guy who will be making the pins we choose (if we choose them when the final options come back) made those pins.  So that'll give an idea of the quality we'd hope to expect.

Twolane is out of state on business and will be back in a few weeks.  I think he's in a deep dark hole that doesn't have internet access.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Looks like it'll be simular to pin #2, though.........pretty overwhelming vote tally there.
