Shipping bikes to attend the Sturgis Rally
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:17:59 PM »

 :)
I'm finally making plans to attend the Sturgis Rally.  Since I'm originally from Omaha, and still have relations there I plan to have the bikes shipped there and then we will ride the 500 + miles to the Sturgis area.

So far,  I have contacted Federal/Allied which is the shipper noted on the regular (Harley site).   Getting ready to check with two or three more to validate prices, etc.

Anyone use a shipper before that they are satisfied with and can recommend??????????

Alot of the Milwaukee area dealers use www.haulbikes.com  they are Milwaukee based and their guys are all bikers, I am using them right now on a referral from a friend, look at their web site, I hope this helps

OhioD....."riding" would also be my preference too.  We both did the ride to Milwaukee a few yrs ago to the 100th anniversary deal.

However,  my buddy and his girlfriend both still work full-time.  They cannot spend 3/4 days (each way), just to get there, and spend another 4/5 days in the area.

So,  sometimes shipping is the best answer.

It's the journey...........not the destination.  Ride it! :2vrolijk_21:

My buddy and I used Federal to ship our bikes last year from Akron to Rapid City and then from Jackson Wy back home to Akron.  Worked out just as planned. They did a nice job staying in touch and accomodated a last minute schedule change. I'd use them again to ship my Springer.

Dont let them give you any grief, get it there anyway you can, sometimes time constraints cause you inconvienances. Shipping it or now going is an easy decision as long as you have the extra coin for shipping You will have a great time riding the area. The last 2 trips to Sturgis we got the the week before an left as the loons were arriving, made a huge difference in riding time, we were able to ride the area and not have to wait on things due to the large crowds. There were still plenty of people there but not like during rally

Have ridden and towed to Sturgis. Prefer to ride, but had fun when we towed.
Thing is go and enjoy!

I've done both trailer  and riding long trips and have enjoyed both. Usually haul a trailer to southern destinations fall & winter & will ride the bike to in summer months. I have driven a 1000 mile straight run in one day and the last few hundred aren't as fun. Remember , its the destination. Get there anyway you  can.
