No Trading Up For Me
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:43:09 PM »

Looked a SERG B/O Saturday that has 3300 miles all stock, it looked like it had never seen the road. So I figured I would try to trade my 05 SEEG with 10k miles, basically I walked away insulted.

My bike is spotless and only two small bad places, and more than likely I would need to point out to someone.

15K, if it would past their Forty-Five minute inspection. Plus they wanted 30K for the used SERG, glad I walked away.

jimp,

I am not sure it would have been a move up.  The 05 SEEG is a great bike.

I had thougts of trading mine about three weeks ago on an O/B SERG.  The day I was going to make the trade, I put a new set of tires on it.  Left the shop to ride to the dealership, which was about 50 miles away.  I got about a third of the way there and thought to myself, what the h*** am I doing.  I decided that I did not dislike this bike.  Never been in the shop except for maintenance.  Yea, it would be nice to have the new frame, but.

The price was MSRP on the SERG and they were offering me 17,500 for mine, which is book down here.  My bike has 23000 miles on it.

No disrespect to the owners of the 09's, I decided it was not a good fit for me, now.

I guess everyone is being offered a '09 O/B SERG. I was offered one last weekend for my '08 SEUC as a trade in. They were going to give me 26K for my spotless white
SEUC with 9300 miles. MSRP for the SERG, the guy who had his name on it got cold feet. Was tempting, but decided that I didn't need it. I got a GREAT bike now.. ;D

I used to own an '05 SEEG. One of the nicest CVO's ever. The '09 offers several advantages (new frame, bigger engine, six-speed, ABS, etc.), but not worth 15k in my mind. Plus you would have had to spend another 3k on the SERG anyhow.

Ride safely,

The new 09's are great bikes but $15k for your 05 was an insult.

What does the open market say?

No way I would trade for 15K, I like my bike to much to give it away. He was hoping he found a sucker that was going to lay down, and I was insulted by his offer.

 :drink:

have a good drink. Advertise it for $23000 and see if anyone bites.  Anything more than a $3000 differential is rape and pilage.

Plus, I am sure they were going to make a profit on the new bike.

I traded a 2006 Heritage with 20K miles (stock except for Mustang and a crash bar) for a CUSE4.  They gave me $14,500 for the Heritage, and I paid MSRP for the CVO with no dealer prep/delivery charges.  I thought it was a helluva deal, and after reading the above, I'm absolutely certain!  Do CVOs not hold their value as well as the lower priced bikes?

In south Texas, CVO's hold their value better than regular bikes.  Recently on 06 Se Ultra sold for the same price as new.  Lately, the bikes have been slow to move but still hold there value.

I was offered $23000 for my 07 UCSE, on trade for an 09 UCSE.  With the 09 being offered at MSRP.  My bike has 23000+ miles on it and that is about a $13000 hit in two+ years.  Not what I am used to for a CVO.  I don't know what other people have been offered,  but that kind of hit on this bike seemed tough to take.  I was told that was a lot of mileage for an 07.  I told him in TX we ride em. I was talking to a dealership in TN, because there doesn't seem to be and red ultras here.

Anyway, I decided since it was not worth anything and I just now, after two years of HD changes and mine, I finally have it where I want it, so I intend to ride the chit our of it and see what comes down the rode.

It has been well discussed on this site about buying a nonCVO and doing it the way you want it, but you still don't have a CVO.  If the CVOS  continue to depreciate as much as the 07's have there is not a whole of difference, except to say you have/had one.  It is pretty crummy when your soon to be 6 year old bike is almost worth what your soon to be 3 year bike.

Off the box.
