I can hear my wife fine speaking without a headset or shouting. Can't stand to wear anything but the half helmet anyway. As far as the CB, never even read the booklet on that.  I don't want to talk on the CB or phone when I'm riding. Don't want to listen to the stereo through a helmet, I like the sound from my speakers.  I ride to disconnect from the world and connect with the isolation of the road. Communication with anyone takes away the pleasure of getting away from it all when I ride.

Just answering the question of the thread,
Decano

I installed the HD headset in my wife's 3/4 helmet with visor so she could hear the music too.  it didn't work.  I didn't read the book.  Still don't care.  Her having to flip up the visor and lean closer for me to hear her keeps the conversations to a minimum.  I don't know anyone else with a CB so who would I talk too?  I keep the phone in my pants pocket on vibrate.  I like to hear the wind, the loud exhaust, and the music.  (and occasionally the wife)

We bought 3/4 helmets with J&M headsets installed last year for the Sedona trip and they it was nice being able to just talk without yelling and turning your head. Only bad part was we had a lot of popping noise and found out later we were given one Wing cord then much better. Just made the Cali trip to Solvang and back with Magoo, and it was nice to be able to talk to him along the way only trouble was I could hear Karen but she couldn't hear me but Magoo could hear me and I could hear him. Very frustrating need to find out what is wrong.

You may want to check the VOX setting for your passenger.  Sounds like it's set too low.

i quit using vox and just push the ptt for intercom

if either person pushes the ptt it just stays on till you release the button - that way its always clear and works perfect all the time.

the reason i have the bluetooth is i ride during the day during the week - its verboten to not answer the the phone - as long as i can answer and tell them ill call them back its ok - if i cant answer - cant ride, simple as that

We were like a bunch of you that have posted.

What is there to talk about besides, gas, food, bathroom and O Chit look out.

At least until I got the SE Ultra.

That changes everything.

We enjoy talking to each other without having to shout.

Riding in a group the CB is very helpful.

And the phone is great, I don't always use it but if you have it then you have a choice.

So I'm now to the point that when I'm on the Classic or the SERG I feel I'm missing a little bit.

The only issues I have with cb and intercom use is to remember EACH function has it's own set of volumne controls.
As long as you remember that, all is good!

We have gone from the 1/2 helmets with J&M speakers to the 3/4 helmets with the Harley speakers.

Give me time, it's called, mo money, mo money!

Cool Mike!

I like it when you give a multiple choice question.

1)   Stupid?  We know your not stupid, because we are not that stupid.

2)   Lazy?  Hmmmmmmmmm  ok, bingo, we may have a winner.

3)   Cheap?  Probably, but how do you prove that riding around on the most expensive Harley produced in 2009?

So I have to agree with your question, how does someone listen to headsets without a helmet?

Here's another one that is sold by our local H-D dealer:

http://imcmoto.com/products/harley-headsets/7-pin-half-helmet-helmetless-headset-4.html

I have not used this item, but I have used other IMC Motorcom products - specificallly their bluetooth headset - and it worked great.

They also make one for helmeted folks - what my wife uses in her 3/4 helmet.
