Windshields and the Stock Gasket???
« on: May 05, 2009, 12:36:38 AM »

Does anyone know which windshields will fit "correctly" with the stock SERG windshield gasket?  Is there a difference between the gasket on a SERG and the standard RG?  I had a CB shield and it fit the gasket perfect but have tried another shield from a friend and it fit the bike but not the gasket.  I'm just trying to clarify which brands of shields fit which gaskets
TIA

seems there is no definitive list for that question, so far my experience has been trial and error. the KW worked with the stock gasket, the CB and CV do not

The Cee Bailys .  09 windshield is designed to fit the SERG rubber molding and to my knowlege is the only one designed to do it.  Doc

If you use a windshield that does not fit the stock gasket do you use a different gasket or none at all?

Id be interested to know how you guys with the KW windshield fit the stock gasket on the new windshield- did you glue back on- as the factory gasket is glued to the stock shield.  I discussed with KW and they told me to leave it off-not meant to be used. I just put the new KW on w/ out the gasket-

I have a CB windshield designed for the 09 SERG and it fits the stock gasket perfectly, not only that but it came with better mounting hardware than the stock bike comes with.

Im not exactly happy with the wind protection on the CB Shields but they do fit the OEM gasket almost perfectly.

i have the stock road glide standard windshield i bought from ebay. stock serg molding looked like crap. bought the cv molding and mounting hardware. looked good, fit good, but now the top of the faring is rubbing the black off. u can see the orange in two places. thought about painting it back but i feel it will just do the same again.

I have a 12" Klockwerks on my SERG with a standard Roadglide gasket (edging)  Talked to Klockwerks  while at Laughlin and was told that putting a gasket in place was a challenge and not necessary but did finish it a little better.  For now it stays.

Has anyone tried the chrome Road Glide windshield trim? p/n 58519-07 with the KW windshield?  Chrome look is not great- maybe powder coated orange or black would be interesting.

I had it on my KW 12, my CB14, and now on my CV, each has it's own issues, washers, spacers, little twisting. oh, and a boat load of well nuts. ok not a boat load, but a good canoe load. Got it fitting the CV pretty good.

Ragrep,

I have the KW 12" and have run it both ways, with and without the stock SERG gasket. The guys at KW's did tell me that it was designed to be used without the gasket but it is no problem taking the one off the deflector and using it. It's a rubber type glue used to hold it on.  The shield out line does not match the gasket perfectly but you would only notice up close. The pro side is it does protect that paint $$$.
