Why the jiffy stand is on the rear of an FXR??
« on: May 08, 2009, 02:16:02 PM »

I was fortunate enough to be working for AMF H-D York PA as a quality audit test rider at the time the first FXR ever hit the test track.

The York H-D track had a doughnut shaped part in the infield. While rounding this doughnut clock then counterclockwise, I found that the New FXR world go faster by 20MPH around a right hand turn than a left.

You guessed it, the FXS style left front mount jiffy stand was dragging to the left. I wrote it up.

Engineering's next version, the stand was to the back of the bike and cornering was terrific both left and right.

Sportsters were no longer fastest bike on track (not even close).

Then before the Shovel engine could be replaced by the lighter faster EVO, Marketing made the FXR a "low rider" and killed off it's terrific cornering ability.

Thirteen and one half inch rear shock length (eye to eye) can bring it back.

Remember, an "R" in the model designation at the time meant "race" as in XR 750.
