All good after bad weather this morning.
« on: May 09, 2009, 02:08:02 AM »

Power has been out all day so likely missed several calls on the land line.  There were several on the cell though.  Haven't had time to call everyone back so will make appropriate apologies and do a mass reply.

There were significant storms in the area this morning.  Eveyone is fine though.  Significant damage in the area.  Was most of the day hanging some temporary fencing and getting two large trees off the driveway at mom's place.

Local reporting was of straight-line winds maintaining 80+ mph and gusting to over 100.  I happened to be coming back in to town this morning as the storm rolled through and believe the reporting.  A loaded semi got tossed over about a block in front of me in town as if it were a Tonka toy.  Local TV station lost its tower.  Lots of other damage in the area.

The highest winds lasted 15-20 minutes.  Steady spring rains the last three weeks and 3" more in the last 24 hours made for inundated ground.  The wind pushed over big trees in large quantity.  A dozen at mom's.  Root balls sticking out of the ground as tall as I am.

Nothing landed on structures though.  Just a huge mess to cleap up and some fence to replace.  Still headed to Eureka in the morning.  Though may not stay beyond Sunday night to allow more time on the clean up.  Playing that by ear right now.

I spoke with Ditch this morning and he's ok.  Damage there sounds comparable to what happened here.  Tried to catch Travis a few times today but cell service was often non-existent due to the combination of damaged equipment and heavy use.  Will try him again tomorrow.

Don glad you and Mom are OK. It sounds like one hell of a storm. All we have had here has been rain and lots of it. Eleven days straight with some form of rain. There is so much water in the ground it is running out of the street on the Mountain road. Have fun this weekend.

Be Safe

Don-

Happy you are ok..  You've got hit bad twice this year with the ice storm and now the wind.  No recession for roofers or tree trimmers in your area.

Everyone be safe and have fun on your outings and travel to and from.
