I just did the 1000 on my 09 SEUC and used Mobil 1 V-twin in the engine and Redline Heavy Shockproof in trans and Redline MTL in the primary. Huge difference. I am sold and will never go back to the other junk they put in from the factory. Will be changing all my bikes to this combo.

You could not tell any difference?  No reduction in noise?  WHY not impressed?

As far as engine noise I noticed no difference between the Syn3 it came with and Mobil 1, nor with half dino and half synthetic.  I don't think the noise is an oil cushion issue.

No difference in engine noise from syn3, and as for trans, the red stuff looks cool like its infused with tranny vitamins or something magical, but no difference IMO. Maybe a slight bit easier to neutral. Still have not done primary yet. Maybe that the ticket, but who knows. From what I'm told the package redline has is cheaper in cost than syn 3. If thats the case, I'll stick with it next time.

Geeeez,  if you really can't tell a difference between the noise (overall) and the greater smoothness of shifting with Redline products.........Just take the occassional trip to your dealer and continue to have them put in Syn 3...... :wall: :wall:

Even if there was no difference in shifting, using a real gear oil versus a "middle of the pack at best" motor oil in the transmission still makes sense for reliability reasons.  Trust me when I say the whole idea of one fluid in all three holes didn't come about because H-D suddenly redesigned the 3 components to all work best with motor oil.

There is a big difference between "good enough to get by", and optimum performance.  If "good enough to get by" is good enough for you, then by all means keep putting that SYN3 in all three holes.

There the same oil, just a different label for the new Harley riders. And about $ 1.00 more a qt.

:P
Pete.......ditch the Syn3!

As you note from myself and some others,  Redline is a good choice for the motor (amsoil and Mobil1) are too.  But for the transmission,  it's hard to beat Redline HD shockproof (or their new m/c version of it).....they also have an option for the primary case as well. :cherry:

This is what I have run for years. I might try the Redline 20/50 or 60 at my next change. The 20/50 was out of stock last week.
Call and talk with there tech. he knows his sh*t about oil & doesn't talk down the other oils.

Please keep me posted on your thoughts with the primary and thank you for the honest feedback!

Also changing to Redline products, but the best way to eliminate 80% of the noise is to not put batteries in your hearing aids.  Worked for me the first time and still works today. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Which is also why Harley is worried about states enforcing exhaust restrictions - people will hear the horrific sounds their engines are making instead of the aftermarket pipes.  I don't think the engineering solution to noise is more noise to cover it up, but a lot of people's answer is to turn up the stereo or buy louder pipes.   Kind of head in the sand, but to each his own.  I'm making a parts list to fix mine.

Well,  I do need glasses, but not hearing aids.  I've got great hearing and am not noticing any particularly unusual sounds out of mine. :nixweiss:

Yup,  there is a different sound from one gear to another as some are "cut" differently but no big deal.
