Head-Quarters Cams
« on: November 04, 2005, 01:59:38 PM »

Has anybody tried or heard of anyone who tried the Headquarter HQ0039 cams? They say they run best with 9.25 - 9.5 comp. They come chain or gear drive. By the looks of the timing numbers the seen like they would be a decent replacement for the stock 253s.

LIFT: INTAKE .580        DURATION: 236        TIMING: 20/36

         EXHAUST .530                       256                      52/24

With the intake lift at .580 they are not a bolt in cam! The profile looks good for a replacement but the heads would need to come off.

I do know thier evo cams were stump pullers.

580 is only 42 thou off of the stock 253 cams. But the timing is much less aggressive. It closes the intake at 36 ABDC. That will build lots of pressure compared to the 53 ABDC of the 253s. The stock springs are good for .575 but I would use HQs springs. I'm new to the CVO 103 world but I've built a few motors and I think this might be the diamond in the rough....especially for the 259.99 price tag!

Where do you get the .575 lift number for the stock springs.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Stock springs are good for 0.550 I don't know where the 0.575 came from. Somewhere on this site we have dicussed this. If you are going to change springs I really don't see a problem. While you have the heads off cut the heads 0.30 to give you a little more bump. You may also want to upgrade your oil pump and lifters.

Yup there right stock springs only good to .550 lift.

Page two and three of this thread.

You will also need to clearance your rocker boxes if you go beyond .550 :)   If your unfamiliar with this make sure the guy doing the headwork is used to doing it.   They have to be careful how they do it or they WILL thin the wall to far and when torqued down will bust and pour oil all over your engine.  Make sure they know if they bust your rockerbox they are responsible for replacing them.
