Gas Pump Warning!
« on: May 15, 2009, 04:21:31 PM »

Seems there are some Pranksters(bastrds I call em) who have been locking the pump handles in the on position so when you turn the pump on it shoots gas all over, if you don't put it in the tank first. If you're like me and grab the handle, turn on the pump, thren insert into tank, this can be disastrous. Happen to a friend of mine this week, got an email from someone else about the same thing. CHECK THE PUMP.

Thanks for the input. That would really get to a person if that happened.

Kind of like the F**ktards who unscrew the tops to the ketchup bottles and salt shakers.

I grabbed a ketchup bottle once, and shook it, only to dispense the contents over the entire restaurant, and occupants. Made for an interesting rest of our breakfast.   :nixweiss:

my wife (then gf) did the same thing in a Chilies in Gainesville when we were in college...ketchup all over the place - I remind her of it from time to time for the hell of it

I had the gas pump thing happen to me last summer.

When I was a teenager, I used to screw the top off the sugar jar, lay a napkin over it, turned it upside down and slide the napkin out, then set the top back on it.

So I figure I deserved to get gas squirted over my bike.

You ain't right.

I always (well usually) put the nozzle in the tank first then flip the switch. Sometimes its an honest mistake. People just replace it after it shuts off automatically without undoing the lock. Most places around here have that removed so that can't happen.

Did you ever light a paper bag on fire on somebody's front porch :'(

New pumps have pressure locks on them that should not allow this to happen - they will not work once the pump cuts off until the handle is released and pulled again -the way it was explained to me is that it works the same way as an air lock.

I haven't had it happen but will now be aware of it.

Happened to me last month in Statesville, NC.  Man, was I pissed off.  I check the handle everytime I pump gas now.  I squirted $1.88 worth of gas all over my bike before I could get it to shut off.

so what are you doing in Maryland?

I'm not in MD.  I thought I mentioned that elsewhere.  We started on our way, and then someone remembered it was bikini day at a local bar, and we turned around and came back after about an hour on the road.  I did make it to OH the next day.  I passed on Ocean City, MD and Washington, DC for this weekend and decided I should stay local until I get a new rear tire, 10,000 maintenance, and find out why I'm still having starter problems.  Bike is scheduled in the shop for Tuesday.  Then I can resume the normally scheduled program of riding like there is no tomorrow.
