Fund Raiser Request -- Personal Request
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:54:49 PM »

Anyone feel free to disregard.  This is a personal one for me.  There's a little girl who really isn't so little anymore.  Has worked for me for five years since she was a senior in high school.  Everything from a "girl Friday" to some impressive research and even the occasional bit of negotiations work anymore.

Couple months ago she blew a tire and had an accident on a little Vulcan I'd got her a couple years ago.  Now has about $5k of med bills that aren't covered by insurance.  On top of student loans and normal kid crap she's freaking out and is considering putting off law school for a year to pay off the medical bills and transportation expeses.  It's dumb.  But she's trying to be conscientious and the whole thing has just got in her head a little.

The bike and a beat up old car for poor weather were transportation for her.  She is at least accepting me making the bike whole again.  Not without pride getting in the way.  But accepting.  She's made me promise not to just pay the medical bills for her so it could be done with though.  That doesn't mean I can't fund raise.  So I'm hitting up here and a few other groups I know or work with.

Just little bits please.  Cost of a movie night or something.  Please no one do anything painful.  She'll know the funds are general contributions.  I'm pretty sure whatever comes in will coincidentally cover what it needs to.  What she doesn't know then won't hurt her.

She's a great kid or I wouldn't ask.  Too many aren't great kids.  She's one who wants to do everything right.  So without any great rah-rah speech if you'd like to help a good kid send a bit via Paypal to rider@theamericanroad.us .

Thanks very much,
Don

NB--already had a quick PM asking about the bike.  It's not that bad off.  Insurance is covering some of the repair costs.  I'm doing the labor to make up for some of the $1k deductible she had.  Only out of pocket another few hundred bucks to finish making the bike good again.

Back at the desk for a moment before heading off again to other tasks.  Just wanted to say thanks.  Three good samaritans helped some this afternoon.  It is appreciated.

Also want to clarify one thing.  Had a message asking "why send her to a movie when she's broke?"  I wasn't suggesting anyone's support would be used frivolously for popcorn.  The girl really doesn't do the "night out" thing to much.  Working, studying and dealing with her own kid sister take up most of her time.

When I mentioned the cost of movie night out in the post above I was intending to suggest that any help anyone was kind enough to offer be no more than something like what you might otherwise spend going out to a movie one night.  Not asking anyone to give until it hurts; or even stings.  Only enough to help just a little.

Just taking a moment to say thanks to those that have helped out here.  It is very much appreciated.  Eight or nine (forget which) good Samaritan riders have opted to help out.  All tolled she's got about $650 contributed from those of us who prefer two wheels.  Thanks again everyone.
