Wiggly riding 2-up - Thougts
« on: May 24, 2009, 08:07:03 PM »

Happy memorial day...

Did a 500+ mile ride over the weekend,  but this was the first time 2-up.  Anything over 45mph and I had a hard time keeping her tracking straight. Was a little breezy,  but thats never been a problem solo.  I had to fight it to keep it on one side of the road crown....

Single riding is not a problem... AirShock setup for 2-up.. Pass is 5"3 and 110lb...

Thoughts?  Improvements?  I did read something about a rotor issue?

oh,  2008 SERK..

Thx!

Same bike. Same size BSR. No problems with that. Did have a pull to the left, with or without BSR. Dealer found it out of alignment. Rode yesterday and could ride without holding the bars. BSR was not amused!  ;D

I assume wheel alignment?  Did the dealer charge for the repair?

Deaf1,

A few things you can check or have checked.

1.  Tires / Balance  Bad Tire, Out of balance tire, cupped tire (too low of pressure)
2.  Alignment
3.  Neck Bearing
4.  Swing Arm Bushings, a friend just had this happen to his bike and it turned out to be the Swingarm bushings about 1/16 play in them.   Dealer replaced under warranty

Would this only pop-up with a passenger?

I have seen weight, and speed both play a factor in this.   Are you also sure on your tire pressure have seen gauges say one thing and been way off as well.

She just came out of the shop from her 1k check up.. I Checked the tires w/ 2 guages.  I manual and 1 digital.... She really was hard to keep in a staggered formation this weekend

It's different for in town driving but on the road I have never had a problem. I would have the alignment checked. Or maybe a little more cross wind that you thought....

No charge. Hope you find the answer. I have to call customer service tomorrow about the rotors and front tire on mine. One rotor is out .011 the other is .008. Since .008 is the break point for replacement....HD will not allow the dealer to replace that one. Pretty cheesy. Dealer says that he has not heard of front tire problems. There seem to be plenty here.

First of all, the SERK is very sensitive to air pressure. So check that in the front tire. If this was not off, I'd suggest to remove the windshield and give it a try - even if just for comparison. Also I suggest to install the Chrome Front Fork Air Baffle p/n 58520-79TC, approx 20$. This little device helps the Touring bikes to develop a more stable feel.

Ride safely,
Louis

It was the alignment....  Dealer put a 300lb tech on it for a ride (to simulate me and a BSR) :)

All set and thanks for the good info as it helped me with the dealer!
