Check Your Bag Brackets
« on: May 25, 2009, 11:20:45 PM »

Hey Guys
I am not having very good luck with my new 09 SERG bags. I am the guy that drove away from the dealer with my brand new SERG and the right rear bag fell off in the middle of the freeway. The dealer replaced the bag as they did not check it properly to see that it was locked on before they delivered it to me.
Today I was taking the bags off to wash the bike and when I took the left bag off the front bracket bolt was completly gone. So check your bags because when they come loose they just sit on the bottom rail and you don't know they are loose.
Have a great & safe riding season.

I've heard several stories like this but a lot of guys were lucky because the wire harness for the locks saved their day from road rash tragedy

I check them the same time as I check the tire pressure , which is pretty well every week.

Picked up my '09 SEUC from the dealer yesterday after having the 1000 mile service performed. As I removed the bags today to give the bike a good cleaning, noticed both the left and right bolts for the brackets were finger tight. And as an added bonus, the rear hold-down screw for the seat was missing. Tommorrow, I'll do my own 1000 mile service, which is what I should have done in the first place and saved almost $400.00. Heading up to Americade in Lake George this week, I wonder what would have fallen off first, the saddlebags or me and the Mrs???

I was unpacking my bike after my first 3-day/1200 mile ride, and the passenger grab strap flopped over the seat... the screw that holds the strap and right bag was gone... definitely gotta keep an eye on the, suckers!

you'd think with a tight economy and sales down - and impending job loss that folks would be trying to to better at work - and not be the one who goofed and easy to can in the lay offs...

my thoughts anyway - seems to be a small trend at least, and I imagine there aren't too many folks who do that particular step in the assembly

or maybe that person was canned?

No assembly line for the CVOs, one guy build two a day.  Their mistakes never get back to them as in an assembly line where they know who does what.
Also the seat, grab strap are items last touched at the dealer in prep, especially if they added a battery tender harness.  Saddlebag brackets being loose... probably hand tight during assemply until they put the bags on to align them, then forget to go back and tighten.  Just my .02.

happened to a buddy of mine who changed to the hardcases on his 09SERG.  Turned out, it was the incorrect washer that he had in there.

Same happened to me on my SERG09 at 435 miles. Just happened to be opening the left saddlebag, when I noticed that the rear twist pin was in the bottom of the saddlebag. Had been off for some time.  Was unable to get the pin back in with the washer on it.  Saddlebag had rubbed off a small amount of paint on the tail light filler strip.  Then checked the right bag only to find that the bolt that holds the front saddlebag mount was missing. Seat strap just laying there loose.  Somebody goofed bigtime. I was lucky that I did not loose one of the bags. That would not have been good. I would have been upset.
