Tiny man-cave/storing the tour pak ideas!
« on: May 30, 2009, 01:48:01 AM »

Well, I am slowly but surely getting more mobile after my little incident, and have a million projects lined up in my mind that I am anxious to get started on. I dont have an enclosed garage. I do have a nice carport with a built-in enclosed storage area.
I plan to pursue a way to put in a bigger door to accomodate my  :cherry:, but in the mean time, I am curious what you all do with your tourpaks when they are off the bike?
Ideally, it would be great to hang it on the wall, or ceiling, in a very convenient/accesible manner without the paint touching anything. I dont have counter or table top space, so I am thinking it needs to hang...somewhere. What do you all suggest, and a pic would be the  :cherry: on top!!!    :D
 Thanx ya'll!!

Tony

2 supports and a piece of wood or something of the sort and you have a shelf to put it on.

I had the perfect rack for mine.  Used metal stock with holes in it, L shaped, and assembled it like an erector set (don't know how else to describe it).  Don't have a welder, so had to use this so I could cut/bolt it together.  Then had some rubber bushings (with bolts through) on the sides of it to align with the quick disconnect hardware.  Take it off the bike, hang it on the rack.  I'll try to remember a pic.

I bought one off ebay.  It was like $80.00 - $100.00. It is an all metal painted frame that you mount on the wall and has a few pieces of metal round bar that you put between the two support bars and attach your tour pak, detach back rest, windshields ect...

I know is cost a few buck but I like how it works for me.

This was another one I was looking at on the Hells Foundry's web site.

I think my shelves in the garage are around 30" deep.  For a tourpack and a few other items, brackets and all would cost less than $20 and you can put anything on there.

Tony, I think I may have what you're looking for.  I also have a grage much to small for two bikes and all the junk that goes with the territory.

Sid (Hotrodstitcher) picked up a couple of these a couple years ago and gave me one.  I know they're out there....I've saw a couple different styles.

This one would be very simple for anybody to make.......either welding it, or drilling holes and using nuts and bolts.

I have this mounted just about an inch below the garage door track and above my roll away tool box so it's mounted in unused space and out of the way so that I don't have to worry about walking into it, when it's mounted.

It's simply four pieces of angle iron welded in an "H" pattern with four pins attached in the appropriate places.  This photo shows where the rear docking hardware of the tour pack is mounted to the top of the wall rack pins.

This close up photo is where the front docking bracket of the tour pack rests on the bottom pins of the wall rack.  If you don't have access to a welder and have to use nuts and bolts, you could simply use a bolt in place of the pin.

This picture just show the tour pack covered with one of those small, soft Harley blankets to protect it from dust and dirt, etc. over time.

If found that wire closet shelving works, at least for the '09 stuff.

As one can expect from this site, I can sit back and enjoy watching the replies and suggestions come in! I love the variety of the ideas!
You guys are great...thanx for the input all!

1abastrsmda--given the economy of your idea, I am leaning that way.

PR3VS56--I kinda have an idea, but still tough to imagine.

49445CVO--WOW, I never knew they made stuff like that! Wish I had the floor space!

JCZ-- I had originally envisioned your idea, but alas, I am ill equipped to make it happen.

Grandpadoc--Love the fridge idea, but would take up precious floor space. I need to hang the fridge, and then put the tourpaks above that! :P

BigLew55--What size shelves are those? They look like 12 inchers, but curious how that size could accomodate the king tourpak against the wall! Would I not need a deeper shelf (18+ inch) to have room for the tourpak to sit level?

Thanx again all!

Tony
