New shoes for the pony!
« on: May 30, 2009, 11:14:58 AM »

After 11600 miles it was time for new tires on the 09 SEUC.

I am very impressed with getting 11600 miles out of the rear D407 tire.

I am terribly dissappointed only getting 11600 miles out of the front D407 tire.

The front tire was replaced with a hard to find D408.

And while the pony was being reshod I figured I would have the rear sprocket painted to match the bike.

Since there is no chrome sprocket cover or chrome sprocket available for the 09's I thought a silver to match the bike sprocket would be nice and a little different.

I got my wish, it is a little different.

The 09 silver pops in the sunlight, but as I determined, how much sunlight really gets on the rear sprocket?

But anything is better than the rough, sand finished, flat black stock sprocket.

So let me know what you think.

And finally, the hard to find D408 front tire.

If I'm going to ride with Hoist the pony had to have new shoes. (and good ones at that)

Ooops, really need a nice blue pinstripe along the inner and outer circles of the flat part of the sprocket and radiating out from its spokes.  :huepfenlol2:

OK Don, help me here.

A very interesting observation you have made.

And guess what, I'm taking two 09 SEUC to the pinstripers on Monday, so I could run back over to his place with mine.

So show me what your talking about and it may happen.

Please!

Ok, and not trying to bust your balls here, but when I saw the image my first thought was:

"Hmmm, Don (because that's what I call myself), many won't ever notice the silver paint and think it's just a regular sprocket.  But if the blue was picked up also it'd really stand out."

But everyone's tastes are different so it may not sound good to you as it does to me.  My thought was this.

Along the outer "ring" of the sprocket (right at the outer edge) a blue pinstripe as a solid circle.  Along the inner ring of that outer flat area of the sprocket have another stripe.  But have it radiate out with the stripr starting at the center and radiating out along the outside of each spoke.

OK

I got the inner ring circle and I got the outter ring circle but your losing me on the 'radiating out" part.

How about a little photoshop demo?

I'm liking what your saying cause I also had that same first impression that it looked stock just being painted the silver.

I'm on a little handheld device right now so no real tools to screw with pictures with.  So couldn't do much.  But something like this but with a blue that matches the bike.

Well how about this?

YES, with the lines not so angular and following the curves better?

looks like a hubcap or wheel...from a 70's GTO

would go with just outlines, not the geometric shapes...

That's a lot better than I could do dragging my finger on the itty bitty touch screen :huepfenlol2: .

Looks much better.  I'd do the outer ring too.  But others might not.  Of course sitting here right now I also think I'd a add little bar and shield emblem in the area inboard of each open cut out.  This stuff could drive a man to drink.

Awww hell... just send one out to a chromer and forget about it. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Seriously... first do you have a picture of it before it was painted, and it does need something to break up the silver.. what you have now reminds me of my stock sprocket that I took off. :nixweiss:
