The Price Of A New Saddlebag for a 2009 SERG
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:57:19 AM »

In case anyone was wondering...

A replacement saddlebag for the 09 SERG is about $1800.

I found out the hard way after dropping my bike in my gravel driveway Friday night and scratching up the left bag pretty badly. Fortunatley, the rest of the bike is fine and no people injuries. Just a stupid rut from all the recent rains that I hit at the wrong angle coming in late on Friday evening after a movie.

Damn!

Da*m Rick, Thanks for the Heads up, its going to happen to all of us eventually, Someone should design Sliders like they use on Metrics that would extend just below the bags.

Major bummer. How long to get the bag?

Find a good body shop with repair experience on Corvettes and a PPG paint computer.  I will wager it will be cheaper than a new bag from the MoCo.

12-16 weeks probably. Won't know for sure until next week sometime.

$1800.00 for 1 saddlebag? Now that is what I would call theft. Honestly, at that price, I would consider looking at some aftermarket extended saddlebags and having them painted to match.

I doubt it.  I had 1 (small) dent in a black pearl RG fender (NOT 2 or 3-tone, just 1 single color) repaired and it was $500 (that's if I paid cash and R&R the fender myself).  The PPG computer could not match all the pearl specifics.  I think the quart of paint alone was around $100.

You have 3 paint colors + the pin stripe + the clear coat.  You'd be hard pressed to repair the bag RIGHT and have the paint to match for $1800.

I agree with GUILTY. You can actually get 2 bags that have more room and are finished smooth (instead of the bump where the extensions start). I'm sure there is a painter near you that can do it. Jim/HD-Dude showed me a front fender that he just had done for a customer that matches the silver paint set of a 2009 SERG. It was really good. Right down to the fade from the front tip point to the ghost flames on the side.

Check out Milwaukee Bagger's new RTM Saddlebags for $950.00 a pair. I'm just not sure if the cutout will line up with the cutout on the rear fender.

Do some homework and it just might work out for the better for you. Keep us up-to-date...

Maybe I'm just experiencing Santa Barbara prices.  I'll be interested to know how it works out as well.

Would installation of the saddlebag guards have saved the bags?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but locking the saddlebag lids won't even slow down a pro.  They can reach a tool behind the bag and pop those wireform fasteners in a heart beat.

No. It got the bottom of the bag when it hit the gravel. Maybe a Saddlebag guard *with rails*, but you can't put rails on the SERG because of the fender & taillights. No place to connect them...
