Is it normal for my starter to kick out when starting. Sometimes I have to try starting twice. Feels like the bike is on the compression stroke.

 :-X :-X

Could be the ACRS is not working.

That will cause a definite starting issue.

There have been several threads about hard starting since the 110 engine was introduced, and many/most of the problems have been traced to the Automatic Compression Releases not working properly.  Eventually, damage can occur to the starter drive and/or the clutch ring gear which will make matters worse.  You need to get the dealer to check this out and make certain the ACR's are working properly.  If this has been going on for any length of time, they need to check out the starter and ring gear as well.

Have you made any modifications?  The reason I ask is that adding a "Super SERT"  tuner will cause the ACR's to be turned off unless the tech goes into the software and turns them back on.  This has bitten a lot of folks around here.

Yes.  The ACR system has had its fair share of issues.

My bike has always been hard to start 6 out of 10 times when it has sat for more than 4 hours. I had my ACR's replaced at 7000 miles during the head gasket recall. It did not fix the problem. I had the ACR's replaced again last week under warranty, still hard to start.
Fuel pressure is good and the Plugs are new, there is a problem other than the ACR's

That's pretty much normal.  With the bike in gear and the clutch disengaged, you still get some clutch drag that adds to the effort to turn the engine over.  Even the higher output starters on the CVO 103's and 110's don't have a whole lot of extra oomph, so the clutch drag can slow the cranking speed enough to cause harder starting.

I had my starter go on me, and then after just a few days, it was difficult to start again.  The dealer replaced my ACR's and now it starts first try, almost every time.

Update: The new ACR's did not help the starting problem, BUT if I start the bike BEFORE the engine light goes out, it starts instantly, every time. If I do wait for the light to go out, it will turn over 7 times before firing on a cold engine.
