GPS "Home" setting
« on: June 04, 2009, 12:58:30 PM »

How do you change or clear the "Home" setting on the '09 factory radio's GPS system ? I made the mistake of setting one of my destinations as my home address and now I can't get it erased to start over. The manual doesn't help at all.

Have you tried to set it again, while being at home?

Ride safely,

I've tried everything I can think of but I'm missing something because the old address keeps coming back. After deleting every address stored in there, I've gone as far as pulling the cd out and shutting the radio completely off. When I turn it back on, I re-enter my home address and try to reset it as "Home" again but as soon as I hit the home button, the old address restores itself.

Take it to your local police station and set it as home.  Will at least get your address out as home.

Okay, so you pressed "Home" and then "Store" (softkey #1) while you were at your home and not inside your garage and it did not record the new location?

I tried again tonite with the bike in the driveway, the switch turned to accessory and the East Coast CD loaded. I deleted all the previous entries again and started from scratch.

Address setting:
We live in the country so my actual address isn't available. I have to enter a street within my hometown (2 miles away). When that address is highlighted, the screen doesn't give you the option to re-set it as Home. The options are to press OK to calculate the route, choose Points of Interest, search for HD stores or Return to the previous menu. When you press OK, it says "Your route is being calculated" When it's done, the Home button (among others) is available again but selecting Home took me right back to the town I deleted.

The current Home address was located and entered while using the South East cd so I've even tried re-setting everything with it loaded.

I've tried every option that's available. Any ideas ????

The trick is to hold the "Store" button down for a good 5 second (or more) count while the system acquires your location.  After the system figures out where you are, it will ask to confirm that you want to store the current location. Press the #4 softkey to answer YES.  If that doesn't do it, it may because your driveway isn't recognized as a location, but I doubt that as it should use your lat/long to set "Home".  If, however, that is the case, go out to the main road (if it is in the map) and try it.  Just continue to hold down "STORE" and give it time to figure out where you are.  If the roads in your neighborhood aren't on the map, then it wouldn't be able to give you directions to get to your lat/long anyway.

If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.

Mike,

I did the same thing.  I haven't tried to figure out how to correct it yet.  I just entered and stored my address so it comes up as a recent address.  At least that way, it's still in there to find quickly without reentering it every time.  If I take the time to figure out how to fix it, I'll let you know.  I will figure it out sometime today or tomorrow, now that you brought it up.

Did you ever get this straightened out?

No, not yet but it's an interesting story. We had scattered thunderstorms around here tonite but I headed for town anyway. I was almost there and stopped when I saw it pouring ahead of me. I pulled into a church parking lot and waited to see where the rain was headed. It wasn't coming my way so I pulled up the address in town and hit ok. Once that address was calculated (6/10ths of a mile away), I pressed the "Home" button and held it in for at least a minute. The old address was showing the whole time and it didn't change. I'm going to try parking on the actual street tomorrow evening.

Put your NAV CD in.  Put your bike in your driveway.  Hit "Home".  Hit "Store".  Hit "Yes".  You should now have the coordinates for your house stored as "Home".  Go for a long ride and try to get home.  Call me if you get lost and I'll tell you how to get back home.

Like 1abastarsmda says, press and the "store" button after you hit "home".  You may have to hold it down for a few, I know I do.

I didn't have to hold it down.  Just pressed the buttons.  Page 35 of the GPS manual tells you the same steps to follow.

Can't wait to hear the report - LOL.

My "home" didn't work last Saturday when I was at the Ohio Bike Week - just wanted to know the estimated ETA as I knew how to get home. Then on Sunday, on another ride in Akron, I tried it again and it worked.   Damn computers sometimes.

Ride safe.
