Convenient Misfortune
« on: June 07, 2009, 01:39:04 AM »

As mentioned elsewhere, Renea and I took a nice long ride on the Purple Bike today.  Bike ran like a top all day.  Rode into a 15K service.  Once home, put the bike on the Handy Lift, and oil began pooling below the front engine mount.  Oil Cooler hose from the HPI oil filter mount had been chaffing against the voltage regulator and wore a small hole in it.  Couldn't have broke through more than a mile or so from home.  Undercarriage was dry save for a few spots of windblown oil.  I maintain a supply a 3/8" ID fuel hose, so the HPI mount came off, hoses were replaced, new Oetikers installed, mount went back on, shimmed up the voltage regulator to prevent another incident, and I got about half way through the service, before I decided to stop, clean up and enjoy the evening.

As you can tell by the time stamp of this post, I can't sleep.  There's a scooter in the garage that needs to have a 15K service completed.......and it is dirty!  I'm fighting it.  I am not going into that garage until daybreak.  No scotch in the house, and beer ain't working.

So......I'll read until I get sleepy........hopefully.

Henry

My bike is filthy. There's green bug juice all over, rain grime, and dried up golly-bugs stuck on the shield. I won't clean it till next weekend. Will you be able to sleep all week? ;D

Once I got to sleep I slept pretty good.  Second cup of coffee is mainlining right now...........but I will find no peace until that Purple Bike is clean, and the mess in the garage is cleaned up.

Another funny thing happened during the service.  Knocked the pan of used primary oil off the Handy Lift.  That was a huge mess.

If you drove up here and helped me do a "henry" on my bike, you could get your frigging trailer out of my driveway!

Yeah, but then your place wouldn't look as "redneck" as it normally does.   ;D  Clean bikes in the Walker garage is a no-no.   ;D  Plus, I figure since my raggedy old trailer is up there in your yard, it'll blend right in with those old kitchen appliances you got laying around the yard.   ;D  Just let the grass grow, Kenny Lee.   ;D  Few weeks and you'll forget all about that trailer.   ;D

Instead of using standard 3/8th's fuel line, order a few feet of the fuel line Summit Racing sells that has the stainless steel wire woven thru it. You can get it in three different colors also,Black, Blue, and some other color I can not remember. When I do my oil thru the engine guard then to a cooler maybe this is what I will be using along with nice and pretty AN fitting that come in different colors also.
