Best way to remove reflectors?
« on: June 11, 2009, 06:11:24 AM »

just found this site, and love it.

I cant stand the reflectors on my 2009 SERG that I picked up 3 weeks ago, and from some of the pics i have seen, was wondering if there is a way to get remove the reflectors on the bike without ruining the paint.

thanks in advance for any replies.

LarryB, does the fishing line/WD40 trick work for the reflector above the license plate? I read here http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=33844.msg544901#msg544901 something about loosening 2 bolts? Not sure what that is all about.

You need to get inside the fender and remove the plate frame and light, then the relfector comes off.  Then just bolt everything back up.  Took me about 30 minutes.

None of my business of course, but are you really certain you want the "clean" look to extend to the rear of the bike?  I personally doubt that the side reflectors on bikes have ever been of much use in the real world, but every bit of visibility from the rear is important.  Do you have plans to increase rear lighting to offset the removal of the reflector?

Just a thought.  Now we return to regularly scheduled programming.

The side reflectors come off easy if you will poor a little "Goop" remover or "Goof Off" on top/behind the reflector, soaking the tape on back. It will come off in a few minutes with hardly any effort. Rear one unbolts.
