Checking to see if anyone else has this problem. I have a 2007 SE Softail Springer and last fall I had a problem with the bike shutting off while I was riding it or at least it felt like it was shutting off. It would loose power and would not accel and it would eventually shut off and I would have to coast to the side of the road and shut it off and then power it back on and it would start and go no problem. It did it about 3 or 4 times in a 800 mile stretch so I took it to the dealer. They finally got it to happen and said it was a main system relay and I got it back and it was fine ever since.

Now over the last few weeks it has started again and is now more frequent. It feels like it shuts off but it doesn't at first it just looses all acceleration and you can't go. It doesn't matter how fast your going it has happened at 20mph and 60+mph. The one time it just kicked back in and I could keep riding the other times I have had to turn the ignition off and then turn it back on and it will start no problem.

You don't happen to have a PowerCommander do you?  My buddy has a Softail Custom that had the same type of problem.  It turned out that his PowerCOmmander had gone bad.  The dealer replaced it and all is good now.

I do have a power commander and I will say something to them about that info becasue I am taking it back in tonight. I wonder if that could cause it to smoke out the exhaust a little when hot. I noticed that it is when hot smoking some.

I also have an '07 springer softail and the same thing happened recently.  I had just run through some heavy rain so thought it might be related to that.  Took it to the dealer and they didn't really find the problem, and it hasn't happened again??!!!

I will talk to them about the relay you mention.

Had a similar problem on my FXSTSSE. It was the power comander. It did show up on the diagnostics when the dealer plugged it into the computer. changed the power commander no problem since.

Same symptoms as yours on my '07 Heritage.  Bad kill switch.  Dealer said he had replaced several on '07 models.  No more problems since.

My 07 CUSE was also shutting down, turned out to be ignition harness.

ha i was just wondering if you found what was wrong with your bike.
i have a 07 soft tail custom doing the same think. i found it has to be cold out to do it.
I take to the harley shop and was told that they never seen it before.
please let me know.     wizard68

About 2 mo. ago I had the very same symtoms, 2008 SE Springer, Dealer found wire coming from fuse box loose code was stating front and rear injectors open, and relay contacts open. Didn' matter what speed or anything, it would shut down let it sit for 5-10 minutes, start right up. Hope this helps

I guess I have offically joined this group now. This morning again at 5:15am on the Freeway going 75mph Kasper shut down again. Coasted to the side of road and turned it off and back on again and all things good to go. I just don't want the bike to go into the Black Hole again at Harley for 5 to 6 weeks!!!

Gentlemen,

This problem is occuring repeatedly on 2007 bikes.  On mine it hasn't happened again in six months.  Of all the cures listed above, several may not actually be the culprit if those bikes are like mine.  Has anyone talked to the MC about the problem?  Does anyone know of a service bulletin that covers this?

My 08 SEUC is a very early model 08. It might be a culprit for the 07 issues???

My '09 is doing it too, BUT, mine only does it (for example) when I'm passing or really haulin' a$$.    If I shift at a WOT point, the moment I shift and release the clutch, the SERG loses all power essentially stalling until I either pull in the clutch, let it stall and re-fire, or shut it off and restart it.   I've been suspecting it was the PCV, but can't pin-point it either.
