Jiffy Stand
« on: March 15, 2004, 08:04:40 AM »

Do SEEG owner's find there Jiffy stand to be rock solid?  I don't and by that I mean it does not feel like it "Locks" in place like my 97 Road King did.  Could it be that because the Bike is lowered it changes the stance on the stand?  I don't feel it leans over quite as much as I would think it should.

I did check, and the tab is fully seated in the slot to prevent it from popping out but it just feels different.

Mine seems about the same as my '02 Classic now that it has been lubed.  It was very dry when new and wouldn't extend or even retract all the way without a little coaxing and it is much better now.  Maybe that is part of your problem?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Also, lean angle of the bike seems about the same as the other one.

Thanks, I will check the lube, but it really glides fine up and down...and looking at the Bike from the front it does lean over...it just feels different than the RK.

The low profile suspension changes the lean angle of the bike,  so it seems more strait up.  Talked to the shop manager who put the low profile suspension on his bike and looked for a shorter kick stand and said they couldn't find one.  [smiley=drink.gif]

My Ultra leaned over a little more than I really liked so I'm O.K. with the lean on this bike.  Sometimes it's not level ground, then the bike is leaning over too far.

Three other bikes I have owned I have dropped at least an inch and the jiffy stands all had that feel. They have never let me down, but I have also always taken care of where I parked and how it sat on the stand, moving if it felt too upright.

they make a 'wedge' that fits under the jiffy stand mount that allows a lowered bike to lean over just as much as a non-lowered bike.  I've got one on and it works great.  A couple of after-mkt. companys make them, one is ProOne, I think. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I think I might know what you mean about the stand. Coming off a Wideglide the kick stand on it was solid when extended. If you rocked the bike forward or backwards the stand did not move at all, but on the SEEG it seems the indentation that the stand locks in has a lot more room for movement. I parked mine on a little incline yesterday and it moved forward scaring the you know what out of me, until it stopped. The FXR3 is the same way, letting the stand move an inch or so forward and back when locked in. I just thought it might be worn until I got the new SEEG and found it to be the same.

You should try it with the 11" 440's  [smiley=nervous.gif]  The bike almost sits straight up on the side stand!
