I'm not sure if the best thing about this new parts kit is how perfectly it executes its intent or that it comes from one of our own.  Perfectly satisfied that both are facts though.

Have seen the Harley branded glove box doors.  Was never impressed.  Fit wasn't right for many bikes as they never compensated for the difference in glove box doors pre and post 2005.  One size fits all, as Harley tried to do, seemed to mean that one size fit none terribly well. 

These doors fit perfectly on my 05.  Pete's documentation reports two distinct versions of the kit.  One for each door design.  So earlier or later you should be able to count on a fit as perfect as I witnessed here.

From either Harley or the aftermarket the various versions of these doors that have been witnessed the last several years have not fit well, some haven't been flush against the glove box after installation, some hit the air cleaners or swung the "wrong" way toward the gas tank and they often had a funky texture or too much smoothness to them that didn't match the surface of the glove box at all.  Pete seems to have hit a home run on all those issues.

The only thing I suppose one might ask for beyond such a great parts kit would be easy installation.  He's got that too.  Took all of fifteen minutes.  That included a little experimentation, collecting the tools I wanted and staging the pictures.

The docs I received quoted a price of $99.95 per set.  $119.95 per set if you ordered them keyed to match your bike.  I just checked.  That's half what either the Harley branded kit or the kit from Eglide Goodies costs.

Starting with the end result first here's the left door on the bike:

The kit comes as shown here.  Assembled doors, keys, plastic rivets that attach the assemblies to the bike and spacer gaskets that position the doors to allow full swing of the hinges. 

Installation involves nothing more than unsnapping the old doors, removing the OE snaps and pushing all the new pieces though the four holes you've opened up.  Pete's instructions suggest either drilling through the center of the existing snaps or reaching inside the glove box with a pair of diagonal cutters and removing them that way.  I did it each way seeing which would feel easier or safer. 

Honestly was a simple chore either way.  Was quicker with the cutters once you figured out the angle to reach in and grab hold with.  But drilling out their centers and yanking the remainder was a quick chore too.

Here are the doors in profile side by side.  You can see the weatherstrip between the two door plates.  So they're rainproof too.  Or as rainproof as anything is going to be in this environment.

The entire assemblies are very robust.  No cheap flex or sloppy feel to any of it.  I was impressed with what we're getting for a hundred bucks here compared to the crap alternative products from the rest of the aftermarket.

The internal snaps aren't removed yet in this image.  But the spacer slips right here.  It's easy to see through the holes to see how well it will all line up.

Here's how the door would set at its opening angle that would be closest to the tank.  No clearance issues at all.  Swings down and not toward the tank.  The downward swing had the side benefit of making the door in to a little shelf as I was preparing to stuff my gloves and other crap back inside.

Here is the door's full open position.  I should have taken an image of the right side so the clearance between the door and the air cleaner would be illustrated.  Clearance is fine though.  In fact it looked as if Pete was ahead of the game thinking these through.  I've got a smaller diameter air cleaner housing so not the best illustration anyway.  But the right door opened slightly less than did the left.  Bikes with a full sized football air cleaner cover should be just fine.

Pete is on the site as PJ57.  Given all the detail and effort that's gone in to his red SEEG over the years it's no surprise these are as nice as they are.  Granted, glove box doors aren't the sexiest thing in the world we'll do to our bikes.  But a lockable door is a nice thing to have.  Finally having one that fits and works well is a nice addition to our options.  Thanks Pete for working up such a great kit.  Really appreciate it.

Only one problem with the entire package. Now I've got to get another.  Have a set of speaker pods that are being recovered to match the seat on the Road Glide.  No speakers in them though.  Just used for rear storage pods.

Had been wondering what I'd use for doors for them.  Had cut some heavy vinyl pieces with the intent of covering them with the seat material also.  These will fit the hole though.  So now it's a no brainer.  They'll get used there too.

Wow!! Perfect timing for me as I just got lowers on my bike and have been looking into a set of locking glove boxes. These look awesome!!  And what a great price!!
