a little oil leak. Any ideas?
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:03:56 PM »

 Hi all,
I finally got threw the break in period. I did it just as the manual said, had the 500 mile service done. I rode the bike to work today, 135 miles round trip. I was a very hot day almost 100 degrees. I stopped to fill gas 10 miles from the house. I noticed that there was some oil spatter on the oil pan. I looked around some more and found little spots on the push rod covers. (At least i am pretty sure thats what they are) I figured the oil pan cap was loose and a little made it out, i had it out to check the oil level before i left for work. It was still very secure. The specks of oil looked like it would have been a small drip and then splatter when it hit the wind. I looked everywhere i could think and no signs of a leak. If anyone has any idea on wear it could be coming from i would appreciate The help. Thanks everyone.

Probably dripping out of your air cleaner.  Check around there.

Yea, that's what I was thinking too. I get a little oil there, especially if riding hard, more crank case pressure.

that was my first thought too! At the service the mech probably overfilled the oil and cus of the hot weather it leaked a lil into the air filter through the breather.

Hey Ice, on my SEEG, you don't even have to over-fill to get 'puking' until it gets down to the level it wants to run and then it's fine......I don't like it, but haven't been able to change it's ways.   har!  :drink: spyder

Evenson82, I also had my first service done last week. By the time I got home I also had oil on and between the lower pushrod covers.
Went nuts looking for the source. But I found it. Nobody ever looks up.
When the service tech oiled the throttle cables that oil ran straight down and out the bottom of the cables. Just happened to be above the oil puddle except for what the wind blew.
Hope this helps, MrGPD
