The theory looks promising, but do the actualy work? Doesn't appear they have a big "following".  ???

Years ago those things used to be all over the place.  Every dealer had them on the shelf or hanging on the wall and lots of bikes had them slid over their oil filter.  They were a very common thing to see.

I personally never used one.  Always figured if I didn't have an oil temp light or an oil temp gauge the oil temp must be ok :-\ .

Feels a little nostalgic to see the old beasties offered up again.

I think they were a Dealer product and they parted ways with Harley, I'm just wondering if they work or not...

I used one of these, the long one with a Dyna Filter on my M2 Buell years ago. Did it work? I have no idea, but I do know those fins would burn you, a buddy of mine touched it to see if it was hot! Not the sharpest knife this guy, So due to it being that hot it had to be dissipating heat I assume. Bling factor is up there as well.

Any additional surface area will expell some heat.  How much or worth it?  Probably not a lot, but it won't hurt anything and doesn't add another thing that can leak so if you like it get it.  BTW, a flat black oil filter will radiate a bit more heat than a chromed one.

I agree, can't hurt and might help a bit.  I seriously doubt you will see a 20°F difference in the oil tank (please note, they do not claim that, they claim a 21° drop at the exit of the filter).  I do wonder just how well it would fit if you don't use a stock Harley oil filter.  Since it is only held on by a slight interference fit that is a valid question.  Just like any heat sink, it's only going to work up to it's potential if there is good contact over the maximum surface area available.  The next question would be, how hard is it going to be to remove when you change the filters?

Look at it this way, where else can you add bling that won't hurt anything but might actually perform a useful function, and all for only $40?  Beats all those totally non-functional bits of chinese chrome you'll find at the dealership with the inflated prices.

It looks to me that it would have the reverse effect on cooling. In concept the fins will give more surface area to get rid of the heat. The other side is that ou are adding more metal around the oil filter that will retain heat. It will draw heat from the front jug when you are parked. It does look nice though.

It would seem that a better design would slice it in half length wise.  Then it weould fit various diameter filters and retain 99% surface contact.  Several large O rings stretched around the two halves would hold it on without being seen.

Looks to be a 'high-maintenance' item........they recommend polishing using a old shoelace ea. time you change the filter.  Back when I had a chrome polisher riding on my P-Pad, that would have been OK, but now......I'm not so sure.  :-\ har!  :drink: spyder
