I feel your pain :bigcry:, the saddest day is when we had to put Buddy, our Golden down. Loved the water and the family. Very sorry Woody is gone.  Dave

Sending our deepest symapthies.  We have two Labs; yellow and black and both are very much part of our family.  I'll be heart broken when the day comes I loose either one.

Hang in there.

Very sorry to hear about that.  It will be one year on July 28th that I had to put my yellow lab to sleep.  I really miss him.  I'm glad that my new BSR has 2 dogs for me to enjoy, since I don't think I can go through the heartache of having another dog here and going through it all again.

His name was Woody. You can see by the picture he loved the boat.. Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Last May 08 my Great Dane passed.  He was a fantastic companion.

This April we got a 8 week old Female Yellow lab.

She has learned to just love the boat and lake.  At twelve weeks we can not keep her out of the water or a boat.

As a dog lover I've always wondered why man's best friend may  live 10 ,11, 15 years  if really lucky & some asshole you hate more than anything else lives to the age of 90.
I wonder the same thing. Their love is unconditional. They never lie, cheat, or stab us in the back. When we are not at our best behavior, they do not hold a grudge.
Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your best friend.

Bill, I feel your loss.  I too lost my Golden last summer, a family companion for 11 years.  Golden's,IMO, are by far the best, most loyal family pets.

My family thanks you all so much for all of your kind words. It really is helping us get throught these hard times. Woody will be coming home on Thursday and his ashes will be put under the treee he always dug up, his favorite flower garden and in a small box that will be put on the boat. I have placed his collar on the bike so he can now take that ride he always wanted to do. Thanks again.

That's great Muddypaws.  I like the ride for Woody and the collar luckly is colormatched.  Don't let those tags scratch up anything in the breeze.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder

Our first Golden's first dog tag from 1991 is on my key ring and our second Golden's collar and tags hangs on the truck's shift lever. Always a reminder of man's best friend nearby.

Very Sorry to hear of your loss.  I lost my beagle hound 4 years ago to Parvo - It still hurts today writing this.  The Vet and staff sent me a card with the poem below, I hope it gives you some comfort.

My friends pushed me to get another dog and I fought it thinking I would be replacing my Shelby (my beagle hound) finally a friend sat me down one day and told me that I had to much love to give not to have another dog.  After spending a couple of days I decided to get Scarlett (my minature schnauzer) the love she has given me has helped me heal - I now understand she did not replace Shelby, I still have all those wonderful memories and times we shared. Scarlett has blessed me with many new ones, she is laying at my feet as I write this.  From reading what you wrote - I believe you have to much love to give not to get another dog.  I hope you do when the time is right for you.

Here is the poem

Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.

I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,

"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,

You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.

I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.

I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.

I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.

I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.

To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...

In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning

and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,

I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.
