THunderMAx Problem Question?
« on: June 29, 2009, 09:50:42 AM »

Hey guys got this installed on a 07  110  with Auto Tune for the past year all was fine, Downloaded the newer firmware and map   and now ever time I open it up says its an Open Loop map  and even installing the old map   still comes up with Open loop...No matter what I try can`t seem to get it to say Closed loop any more, And Closed loop was and as far as I can see Closed loop is checked off...Any one with any ideals, Just wonder IF I have to send the computer BACK or has anyone else had  problems like this?  Thanks for all info...!

Was there a specific problem or issue you were trying to resolve with the new firmware download?  Or just trying to make something that was already working well work somehow more well?  If it ain't broke sometimes we're far better off not trying to fix it.

I'd suggest calling the company for tech support.  But, well....  it's Zippers.

  As you say perhaps:

somehow more well.....

The new firmware was suppose to have bugs fixed????

As well as the latest map for the 110`s....

It just that NOW  it always says  in open loop, tried to delete all software and reinstall but always comes back saying its in  Open loop mode.period

I should add  ,  it says no 02 Sensors detected and recomeneds to run in open loop,  But I always click on No..   Can`t see Both o2 sSensors packing it in at the same time...

Anyone have problems of this nature or other problems with Thunder MAx units...  One fella  said  that it seems the ECM side is ok  but seems the Data Link side of the the Ecm may be toast...?

Are there other forums or links that deal with common or not so common problems with these Thunder MAx units and or the Auto tune  units as Well???

Just a WAG here.  And I am by no means qualified to speak to the peculiarities or the common traits of the Thundermax.  But I do remember Kitzmiller writing once that if an O2 sensor failed it would behave as you describe.  Perhaps it had been an ongoing thing and you'd only now noticed it.

If you want to give it a shot just to see you need Bosch 17014 sensors.  I just looked and saw an eBay seller offering them for less than $40.00 per including shipping.  They're all over the place for $60.00 or less.  No reason to pay the asinine jacked up prices the fine folks at Zippers would ask you to pay for a replacement.

 Thanks for the reply,

 All Info Appreciated...

Not sure though can`t see both 02 Sensors going South at the same time,   and that message about No o2 Sensors Detected seems werid to say the least..

The VTwin Forum has a couple of looooong threads by T-Max users. One of 'em has been ongoing for years. Quite a group of knowlegeable folks pretty good at trouble-shooting online.

Wouldn't take failure of both sensors to cause.  Just one.  Sorry to have implied otherwise.  Though for their relatively small cost and the fact the things do degrade over time if I were questioning once I'd replace them both and be done with it.  Lot easier than swapping back and forth between them or just hoping you guess right the first time.

Not knowing much about the Tmax system. Is there a way to SEE the O2 sensor working?
I have the TTS Mastertune, and I can watch the flowing graph of my O2 sensors switching on and off as my engine temp comes up to normal operating temps.
I think the Tmax uses WB sensors, right??? Can't remember all, but, you MAY be able to check for correct calibration/operation of your sensors from the Tmax program.......just guessing here, but, worth a check.
