Just don't end up like this guy.

After 45 years of marrage (yes to the same woman)  I can say I am 100% confident, either he is just a plain "jerk", or she is a bit*h, in either case they will be divorced within 5 years if no kids, or within ten if they already have kids.

I too had cold feet when considering buying a CVO Scooter. I have about 3,000 miles on my SERG and I'm lovin it. Considering I live in Northern Indiana and it's rained half the riding season that's not bad.
Like the way it looks and love the way it handles and performs. Scheduled for new pipes and tuner next week. Can't wait to be able to hear my bike again.
So far so good. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

None of us that already had our CVO would have had any doubt that you would love your bike.  It's a given!

Welcome to the site. I didn't read everyone's post with this thread. I am one who loves my bike, and knock on wood, have had very few problems. Some buy the CVO and think its an investment, but I disagree. They'll lose value just like anything else, but they are very nice rides. Read on this site and you'll change your mind a hundred times about buying one, then actually buy one. Enjoy!

You guys are really great in here! I appreciate your opinions and honesty. I found a new 2009 Ultra Classic SE last night. The wife says "No"...but hell, everything I have she at one time said "no" to , except her! *S* If I do get it, I will post it. God bless!  Gary .

Go for it Gary........you'll not be sorry......especially with the 09!  I'm not saying that because I have an 09....I don't.  But they made some great changes in 09!

I've been riding since the 70's so I remember back to the days where it seemed like you had to work on a bike every time you took it for a ride.  And you never left town without checking every nut and bolt.  HD has came a very long way since then.  The Evo motor was progress by leaps and bounds above the shovelheads and panheads.  But they had their issues, to. Mainly the rocker box gaskets and base gaskets.

Along came the twin cam.......the first year or two they had fuel injection problems but they quickly got that straightened out.  They continued to put out bigger and bigger motors and they've had a few issues along the way (heat, gasket leaks, etc.) so it takes a few modifications to get the heat down and I believe they pretty much have the leaks under control in 2009 with a new gasket design.

In short, we all love our bikes.  But if it appears a little scarry in here, go to one of the Goldwing forums or the BMW forums and you'll swear it's the same people.  No, Harley's aren't perfect........but then neither are the other makes.  They all have issues that are particular to their make.

Hello Gary and welcome to the CVO Forum!  The longer you wait the less time you'll have to enjoy it!  Like you I kept reading about the CVO's on the forum and was a little put off by all the negativity expressed.  But like another said when you go to the other bike websites you see the same thing.  I couldn't be happier with mine.  Sure there have been a few issues, but nothing that was unexpected or major.  Could there be some improvements made, sure and that is what they're doing albeit a little slowly.  But if you wait for the perfect bike, you'll be too old to ride it!  If you get the okay from the head financier go for it!

Well my bike turns 8 months old next week and I currently have 30,000 miles on it.....I have had several HD in the past and I know now that each time that I purchase a new one from now on It will be a CVO....yes it still breaks down but I have only had minimual problems, and that is a good feeling as I average about 1,000 miles a week.....Yes the maintenance is very expensive.....but I do ride her hard....well very hard....I would just buy it, your wife will always get over it when you are out on the road....good luck and enjoy

Look at it this way: Harely now has 50% of the market. You are wanting their top of the line motorcycle. Harley will build over 300,000 bikes this year and less than 5000 SEUC4's. That's less than one percent. Once you get it, she'll love it.  ;) ;D

No mistaken it here Walt.  Your first post and you have me totally confused.  What are you trying to say?  Set up your profile also...we'd all like to know what you ride, and where you're from.  It can be very helpful if you have any questions down the road.  Welcome to the forum from Pittsburgh.

In the '80's I rode sportbikes. We didn't call them that then. I took some time off to grow up. When I decided to ride again the ONLY bike I looked at was H-D. I've always liked the old look of a springer with dragbars and drag pipes. The SE Springer had everything I wanted. There was no discussing any other model and I wouldn't compromise on color either. It arriaved at the dealer while I was on my honeymoon (second marriage). Both of us couldn't be happier with our refound love of the open road. I wouldn't have done anything different. I love the ride, looks and playing 20 questions at every light. A CVO is the only bike I would consider for a replacement or hopefully an addition to my current ride.

Mark, that is a very misleading statement.  There are 4 man teams assigned to do the final assembly on the Touring models, but they don't "build" the entire bike.  The subassemblies, things like engines, transmissions, wheels/tires, all the painted parts, etc. are built up elsewhere and shipped over to the final assembly team to be bolted into the frame.  Big difference between completely building a bike, and just bolting all the subassemblies together.

Heck with the right tools/equipment I "might" even be able to do that.... and everyone knows I'm no "wrench" (coming from the guy that still has stock hinges on his KTP w/custom billet hinges available to install). :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
