Who makes those hinges?
« on: June 29, 2009, 07:34:02 PM »

Well I just took the tourpack off the bike and am preparing to ship it out to get painted. As expected with the failure of the tether cord the hinges were all mangled. Who makes those fancy looking replacement hinges? I need to pick up a set to send to the painter so he can install them.

That's a different person selling then the ones we got originally and a lot more expensive. If I remember correctly when we were doing the group buy the original seller was selling them on eBay for $93.50.

Those HD hinges are nice looking to, and less than half the price of the one on e-bay. I sent an e-mail to the address Firedood posted, I'll see if he gets back to me. I'm also going to shoot one over to HD-Dude and see if he still has that set Ernie was talking about.

I understand that the HD hinges do not work for the chopped tour pak.  I checked about a week ago and HD still had not shipped any new hinges that fit chopped tour paks.  At the price that ebay is selling them, I'll wait for Harley to manufacturer.

Manufacturer of the hinges is a guy named Dick Pomeroy.  Has been reachable for sales directly at dickelk@aol.com.  Sold much cheaper directly than is offered by this ebay seller.

Well I sent an e-mail to Dick Pomeroy and he has not responded yet. I'll give him a day or so. I have the large Ultra TourPack the newer HD hinges should work on it.

Mark why would you let your painter install the hinges? I would let a pro like DOOD install them!!!!!!! He has been dreaming about installing a set of billet hinges on his tour pak for so long I bet he can almost do it in his sleep!!!!! :orange: :orange: :orange:

I sent him an email a few weeks ago, he got back to me next day and I had my hinges in a couple of days.
My second set just haven't had a chance to put them on the new bike.

I don't know if there's any truth to it or not, but a salesman at a local dealer told me that Harley was discontinuing their chrome hinges.  I had shown my hinges to him before Harley came out with theirs.  A few weeks ago, he saw me in the parking lot at the dealer and came out to tell me about Harley coming out with the hinges and that they were discontinuing them already.  He said he thought that they had some problems with them breaking.  They are still on Harley's website, so he may have been wrong.
