I made sure all the paint problem parts were changed by dealer prior to selling my 2006 SE Ultra.  And all the problems that I had at the time were corrected.  Did not want to pass on my HD probelm scoot off on some one else.  I was told by the dealer that the replacement parts looked good, as I did not see the bike after parts replacement.

A lot of folks are going to be finacially stressed when they go to sell or trade the scoots in with paint problems....we see them all the time on rides & how do you mention it to some one?????  hey your $32,000.00 scoot paint does not match.

Hope it all works for you....keep after them!!!!!

Yup... that's pretty sad alright. Fortunately there are many other things on this site that bring a tear to our eye and songs in our hearts. I've even SAVED money by being a member of this site ... of course I spent it on other OCD items, but I digress...  ;)

Mike, this may very well be the most important thread.  And it is certainly something that one would think a major corporation would be interested in.  After all, at this point here today it is basically 75 pages if ill will, run around, misdirection and very very few actual solutions or resolutions.  It's a year of some people's motorcycling lives essentially pissed away for lack of manufacturer effort.

The longest threads have far and away been the Maggie Valley threads.  But this is certainly the most consequential and illuminating.

Could not agree more Rog.  Can't tell you how many times the thought "sonofabitch I'm glad I like the red bike" has crossed my mind when I read of all the trouble you guys with the 06s have had to deal.  There is only so much satisfaction that can be taken, after all, from knowing you don't have to really worry about washing the bike.  That satisfaction, however, as limited as it is, would pale in comparison, no matter how large the satisfaction might actually be, to the lack of satisfaction and simple respect so many of you have received from the Motor Company.

Many of us have realized for quite some time that when push comes to shove we're buying commodities so are as HDI is concerned.  In some respects that's even a legitimate response on their part.  But their focus on a near term bottom line ahead of the clients that supply that bottom line has to, eventually, be tempered by a humanity that has to be concomitant to selling a very human product.

We ride these damned machines primarily because of the way they make us feel.  The Motor Company knows, and preys on, the fact that that feeling is very hard to break.  In cases like this they test the limits though.  I can say, "well, they didn't come for me" (pardon the crude historical metaphor) with this problem and get on the red bike I love.  Hide my head in the sand and only commiserate with all of you still dealing with the problem.  But I know that I could just have easily been caught up in some other systemic mistake; or might yet someday.

The simple fact that I've avoided such major corporate hassles and only witnessed them befall others is why I'm still on the bike I am though.  If they ever treated me the way they've too often and too repeatedly dealt with many of you here I'd be on another machine though.

Unfortunately, it's deeper than that with a lot of people. People bleed orange and black. It's tattooed on their skin and imbedded in their lives. It's more than just a brand name or about just any old motorcycle. It's about lifestyles built around that particular motorcycle. HD Corporate has been screwing around with their loyal customers for years to maximize earnings and shareholder returns! We keep coming back for more. Why? If I have to explain.....understand! Replacing the bike with another brand is not an option. We have to fight back with MoCo and have them make it right. I don't know if this paint problem is "epidemic" for 2006 or isolated. This is the perfect forum to find out and go back after them. Maybe class action? Changing brands won't help though. Hoist!

Trust me, just with the members here it is epidemic.  The only ones that aren't aware they have screwed up paint just haven't seen a bike the way it is supposed to be.

Is it possible to compile a list of problems here, besides this thread, for leverage with the MoCo? I assume someone here is an attorney. Why don't you try to start a class action suit against them or use all the case studies to at least get them to make good under warranty or lemon laws? Just throwing some ideas out there. I would like to think that 2800 CVO members (most expensive HD's there are) would have some kinda juice with the MoCo! Hoist!

What you describe is part of the problem that befalls us though Hoist.  If we can't switch products we can't really fight back.  At least not in any way that truly matters to HDI.

So long as product goes out the factory doors everything else is ancillary.  That "everthing" includes us as HDI is quite capable of separating revenue from the source of that revenue; because they belive it to be guaranteed.  We are not cheap dates.  But we are incredibly incredibly easy.

Unlike some of the brethren I don't have walls festooned with logo gear and company logos inked on my body.  I LOVE the machines.  Have for a long long long time.  One of the few things I enjoy more, however, is simplicity and lack of hassle.  I also despise it when someone else forces me to have to become an asshole due to their inattention or incompetence.  The hassles the 06 owners have dealt with would be for me The Perfect Storm of dissatisfaction to send me in to the saddle of another company.

Beside switching bikes I'd have a couple of leather jackets that would look funny on a Goldwing and a stupid number of t-shirts that would immediately become yard and shop shirts.  But I'd still ride.  I may not enjoy the comraderie of the Wingers and BMW riders in their silly shorts and matching shirts as much.  But that's alright.  I rode primarily alone for a long long time.  It's about the riding.  And what is seen and how I feel when I'm doing it.  What I'm on is important.  But it's secondary to what's inside me while I'm doing it.

Until Harley understands that such a willingness truly exists in their client cadre they won't change their SOP though.  We've seen it often enough and long enough to know it just won't happen.

It wasn't until recently, however that any of this mattered. You can buy a plain black carb model Super Glide for $12k and do what you want with it. You don't need the MoCo. Aftermarket supports these sccoters just fine. If it needs paint, paint it. These CVO's, when they are portrayed as investments, instead of just motorcycles, is just what the MoCo wants. I ordered my first CVO and I'm extremely excited to get a factory hot-rod touring bike. I'll fight with them while under warranty to get what I paid for. But I still plan on riding and keeping the bike and doing what I want to it. I'm not "investing" in a bike. I'm vested in all my bikes. They are my life! If you want to invest in a Harley, buy their stock! Hoist

You have to understand. We're "Hollywood" now. Bike shows, tattoo shows all over mainstream TV. Discovery, TLC, History network shows! Of course HD wants a piece of this!

Before they used to hate us! Now everyone wants to be like us!

Well this is no Hollywood show. It's us. True and Blue! Only the real bikers will be in it for the long haul and their bikes will be with them. We're theire core business. The wannabees and "investors" will be gone and the bikes value will drop like lead anyway. In the wind is all it takes to be a biker. Not any particular brand. The HD is part of this and thousands of other biker"s lifestyle and is one and the same! The MoCo listens. They're at every rally. They saved themselves by modeling their bikes after "outlaw" style bikes and the CVO's are here because we want them and are willing to pay.

Getting off the soapbox now. Hoist!
