Im really leaning towards working out some kind of agreement to let me have it painted by my own painter of choice. I dont think they are anywhere close to getting this right, wether it be recycled parts, new parts, etc. This new set of parts are simply horrible, I believe that Miracle auto painting or even Macco, which is basicially a drive thru paint job, puts out a better paint job. One othet thing that is very clear , actually NOT clear...the new Clear coat is Yellow compared to the Lids clear coat , which is very crisp clean glass like clear. So, even if you they didnt color sand and buff the clear, it would not be correct. Another problem I am having now, Fibres and dust are being drawn to the new parts and sticking to everything. Static charge from all the buffing. Anyone elses new paint do this???

I've worked for a few owners and or managers of Body shops, who would try and do the color sand and buff out of a bad looking job, and then sell it to the customer. A good detailer can hide most defects.....till its washed a few times........This is exactly what this feels like. I also know what this paint job will look like in a few years too. I do have extensive experience in the Body and paint field. This is an Enamel with a hardener clear coat, there is [highlight]NO WAY [/highlight]to ever color sand and buff the sand marks out. Last coat of clear [highlight]MUST[/highlight] be a non sanded finish coat. If all the guys who are happy with their new paint and its the same process as mine,(Fine sanding scratches and buffed) They will [highlight]NOT[/highlight] be so happy in a few years when the paint waranty is no longer in effect.

For what its worth, my replacement front fender looks great - beautiful - awesome!!! The way it should [highlight]all[/highlight] look.

This is the new replacement fairing. There are no "glaring defects" but it doesn't match the good "black emerald" of the new fender or the inside fairing.

It's easy to see the "milkiness" in these new replacement saddlebags. Compare them to the lids or the rear fender.

To say they don't match would be an understatement! And these are the replacement saddlebags installed a couple of months ago. Second set of replacements are on order as of last week.

Geez....that's about the most obvious set I've seen.  It is so hard to imagine what idiot at HD thinks it's OK to send crap like that out to replace something bad in the first place.  I sure hope your second set is right!!!  It would be nice for everyone to get this issue behind them...it would be killing me....

Just got back from meeting with the Rep...I dont have an answer, and in my opinion, it didnt go very well. I butted heads with him from the moment he said I put scratches on it using a virgin micro fibre rag.........even though the old lids dont really have 2% of the amount of scratches on them as the new lower bag right next to it, nor are they anywhere near as deep ....and I've been microfibre-ing those lids for 11 months now.  I think I know where this is going to go.......


I'll hear from MoCo he said, with their decision. I'm, not going to say anymore here, Im going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, I will let you all know what the outcome is, I requested Autumm haze parts to be sent next time, or a complete set of tins that I can have painted myself, or my least favorite choice, send the correct color, but better quaility. Which I dont think will happen.

I will when the decision is made, [highlight]'Quote' this post [/highlight]here and finish the details of this day and some of the things that were said or 'discussed'  btw....dont't believe everything you read on the internet.......this was one of the topics discussed regarding the rest of you with bad paint that I have heard of or met personally.....learn something new everyday.

One other thing, there was a Brand New '07 B/O that just got ungrated there, belongs to someone as does the one that will land there next month. still didnt have the windshield or highway pegs on it yet....very nice bike, while I was waiting for my 'inspection' to be done, I went over this with a fine-tooth comb. Paint was perfect. and EVERY part had a factory orange peel effect to the finish....I have no orange peel. Mine was sanded out.

FYI - It's not as bad as it looks in that photo - that one caught the light just right. It's bad but not that bad. However, that's what you see with the milky paint. The good paint never looks like that, no matter how the light hits it. I can see where the MOCO might (slight chance) possibly miss it. Me, being the owner and one who meticulously details it, I see it all the time. I'm sure other owners do too. Alot of them may not be bothered by it. Doesn't make it okay. This was a HUGE decision for me spending this kind of money on a bike. I fully expected it to be a fabulous bike and apart from the paint flaw, it is. I think the MOCO is trying to make mine right. I wish they'd have done it from the beginning and I'm sure if they weren't so big and could be a little more personal with their customers, they'd have done a better job of fixing it. I know they can do it. Question is if they will. Nonetheless, they've ordered me another set of paints, so we'll see how that turns out.

 >:(  All painted parts should have a label atached that identifies the paint facility and the date the parts were painted.  On my 2006 I had these labels attached the the saddle bags and the saddle bag lids.  If they are using recycled parts check for these labels.....

Stand firm w/ HD, they need to step up & once and for all fix this stuff...they are getting a blacker eye more & more!!!!!

Mike my new paint does not have fine scratches in it. and strips can be felt!! twincam

While out riding yesterday and at an outstanding dinner and even better  [smiley=drink.gif], I received a message that all my replacement painted parts are in...now to do the inspection!

Only 20,815 miles later!
