Replacing 09 SEUC4 AC with 09 SERG AC, problem. Help!!!
« on: July 05, 2009, 02:10:53 PM »

Am trying to replace stock SEUC4 AC with the 09 SERG AC for increased airflow and other reasons. Dealer parts guys told me that both bikes run the same induction module so I thought this should be easy. Bought all the 09 SERG AC parts and strated to replace the SEUC unit and found that the bracket that helps hold the SEUC4 Fuel induction module winds up holding the SERG back plates out from the module about 3/16's of an inch. I am going to attach a couple pics to help show the problem. Anyone with an 09 SERG parts catalog, would you please tell me the part# for your induction module. It should be pictured near the front of the catalog. The SEUC4 Induction Module Assembly part# is 27685-08A. Hopefully I don't have to purchase a new induction module to make this work. If you have any pictures of the 09 SERG w/o the AC on it, please list in reply, but remember to resize so they fit in the message. Thanks

The prior picture was of the 09SERG back plate being held up to the induction module for the 09 SEUC4. There's a 3/16's gapbetween the back plate and the machined face of the induction module. Seems the mounting bracket in the photo below is what is causing the problem.

That black mounting bracket that helps hold the induction module, appears to be the culprit. Anyone with an 09 SERG with phots of your Aircleaner on or off that you could send me would be helpful. Or anyone who has an 09 SEUC4 who has successfully done what I am trying to do and can tell me how you did it, hopefully with pictures, It would be most appreciated. Thanks

 ???
If I'm understanding your problem correctly,  the "gap" you have is at the mounting holes??  If so,  couldn't you shim the gap with the proper size washers or multiple washers to make up the gap? :nixweiss:

Egultrac is right on! This air cleaner is available in a kit form called the "Screamin' Eagle Ventilator Performance A/C Kit" #29915-09. The instructions state " 3. remove fuel tank; 4. Remove and discard the induction module support bracket." They then go on to describe the installation of the new air cleaner. No need to remove tank, follow Egultrac's instructions.

Thanks so much for the detailed answer Egultrac. Did you install the 09 SERG AC too? If I remove that bracket as you describe, then what holds the fuel induction module in place, as it seems that the bolds in the back side of the bracket are holding it in place? Does the 09 SERG have a different mounting bracket or fuel induction module, to your knowledge? There are three screws that came with the 09 SERG AC kit that appear to screw thru the AC backplate and into the machined front face of the induction module and then the two breather bolts for the SERG AC screw into the cylinder heads. Thanks again.

SIX38, saw your reply too and thanks for the added instructions.

No where here yet,  have I seen the reason to make this change??????????????????  Am I to understand the SE a/c on th Ultra is not as "flowing" as that on a Road Glide or whatever the other was????

It's a mystery to me.......... ???

In the past due to the fairing lowers and EPA noise restrictions the CUSE have not had the high flo A/C because of noise being trapped by lowers. I would imagine this has not changed. :nixweiss:

OK,  but since I had the "110 RACE KIT" installed on mine........and part of that was a change to the A/C element stuff.  Maybe I now have the (max. flow) setup???   I must admit some confusion there as since I bought a SE CVO bike,  I would have thought I (already had) the SE (high flow) element as "stock"

Moscooter, the 09 SEUC4 did not come with a high flow AC. The SERG's did. That's why I was trying to change to the 09 SERG AC. I think Egultrac has the right idea as to the install of the 09 SERG AC. Of course then you have to consider exhaust pipes or baffles such as Fullsacs and a reprogram of the ECM, such as with Mastertune. This is giving me a headache. Of course too many beers din't help either.

The Electra Glide models never have come from the factory with a true high flow air cleaner.  What they did come with was the stock black plastic airbox that had a few extra holes punched in it to allow a little more air into the airbox.  The description of the 110 race kit in the catalog does not include anything about a different air cleaner (which makes no sense at all when you figure the kit adds higher flow heads and a bigger throttle body).  If you still have the black plastic airbox, you don't have the best high flow setup.

As best I can tell, the flow ratings for the H-D high flow alternatives would be ranked as follows:
Smallest improvement over stock, CVO air box on FLHT models
Next, SE round element and open back plate kit
Next, SERG / Ventilator air cleaner
Highest flow, Heavy Breather

Thanks Jerry, I didn't buy the kit, I bought the indivdual parts from the SERG parts manual because I wanted the back plate to color match the engine and I figured that was the only way to do it. It's been a frustrating day. First with the AC, then the saddlebag supports I ordered don't have the tabs to hold the 09 SEUC filler strips for the saddlebags, and then I tried to change out the tail light to make it shine downward onto the FLHX plate mount and forgot to order to GD screws. UGH. What a day. Time for bed.

:cherry:  Nope,  I don't have the plastic backing plate/cover.  I just looked and it's wide open to the filter element.

Probably the reason why yours is the way it is...

Hello.....yesterday,  I stopped at Poohs in Cherry Grove (North Myrtle Beach) for  a cold one.  I was immediately approached by Pado ??  who quickly told me about this site and how I should check it out. :nervous:

My new bike goes back to the dealers this week (after break-in miles) to get the dyno tune-up.  After about 174 miles,  my "110 Race Kit" arrived and was installed.  Along with Vance/Hines true duals and Rinehart mufflers.  The true duals were NOT what I wanted (the dealers error),  this week, they will replace those with the new V/H "powerduals" (which is a two into one and back into two setup).

It runs pretty ragged now,  I hope the tuneup gets it all like it should be!   I'll know in about a week.

Anyone else have this set-up???
Having that kit installed on your bike more then likely would include a hi-flo backing plate. :nixweiss:

Well,  I'll have to ask my service mgr which hi-flow setup I have.  Since they ditched the plastic box and it's now in the "stock" stuff I need to sell,  I know they changed it out.

By the way,  after substituting the T-Man 625 cams in place of the SE 260's that came with the "kit",  My latest numbers are Max torque = 110 and Max HP = 108.
