Anbody got any ideas where this bolt may have come from
« on: July 06, 2009, 12:22:38 PM »

Any of you who've been follwoing the saga of the electrics on Big Bertha will know I've just got her back.

No electrical problems so far.

However, I washed the bike today for the first time since she came back, thought I'd check the rear seat bolt and sure enough it wasn't tight and even worse it was cross threaded.  I had to get out my tap set to re tap the thread - I hope it will still stay tight. Every time my dealer takes the seat off they don't put it back on properly.

Also noticed that the dealer isn't as careful with my panniers as I am as now the bottoms are scratched as well as a light scratch on the sidepanel.

But the main thing is after washing the bike and refitting the seat I noticed a T27 black Torx bolt about 1/2" UH and 1/4" UNC, was not there before - obviously washing the bike has loosened it or it was under the seat somewhere.  Any ideas where it's from??

Thanks in advance.

Have you got a part number, is it a button head torx?

Which ones do you mean, mines got on the inner fairing one silver torx bolts on each side in the top area, and down by the fork legs one black torx bolt on each sided (the one I found looks like those), but none of those are missing!?

It doesn't look liek a significant load bearing bolt, but even so I hate not knowing where it's from.

no but i had them fall out on me, if you shine a flash light through from the left side you should be able to see if they are both still there.

That bolt is used for the inner fairing, two on each side, one pair down low above the lower tree and the other pair below the speakers area.

inner fairing bolt..  they get lost in the tree all the time..  use a magnetic tip torx when you try to remove and install..best way.

Are they the ones at the top and bottom of the inner fairing, my top ones are chrome and the lower ones by the fork legs are black - both are still there - maybe the dealer lost one and replaced them both?

Those 4 are usually black. 2 by the speakers and 2 in the tree underneath. Easy.
