Radio versus intercom versus CB, CD, etc.
« on: July 07, 2009, 04:03:19 PM »

 :cherry:

OK,  I've got a fairly new '09 Ultra Classic CVO.   I've never had or cared to have a radio on a bike before and now my wife (when she is on behind) keeps thumping me on the back cause she sees me looking down at the damn display instead of looking where I'm going :confused5:

I've read thru the booklets and owners manual more than any book I had to read in college......You can turn the CB, the intercom, the nav.......ON AND OFF.

What I want to do is.........have the intercom on and/or the nav on and not have to hear the damn radio whether it's am or fm in the background.   How do ya shut off the radio but still be able to hear the intercom or nav????  Do ya have to just turn down the (main) volume or what :nixweiss:

With the radio on and the display showing the radio, turn down the volume.  Use the lower right radio face button (the display will have "INT" next to it) and then turn the volume for the intercom up.  They use 2 separate volumes, and the CB uses it's own volume, so if it's on, either turn it off or turn it down.

Just mute the radio volume, you have to leave it on.

as above - each function has its OWN volume - turn intercom up and radio down & each of the three positions have there OWN volume - rider, passenger and sidecar.. so you have to be very methodical as to what you are adjusting to make it work properly - if you dont first grasp that there are music, int, cb, phone that have there OWN volume you will have a huge frustration

next - with the mode button you can cycle from function to function and go to int and leave it there - no need to push buttons on the faceplate while driving, even to answer the phone you just push ptt

whatever function is on the main display is what is working & TAKING ADJUSTMENTS AT THE MOMENT - if you dont want to listen to the radio then just leave it in intercom all the time and you wont have to

i agree that its not at all obvious how to work the thing and it was a genuine "ah ha!!" moment when i realised that each and every function has its own volume.

and then there was the other "ah ha!!!!!" when i realized that rider, passenger and sidecar can each have there OWN volume

so she can turn up the music and you can turn it down to zero - she can change channels from the back and leave you out of it [assuming she is tall enough to see the display]

and then you put it on int and adjust intercom volume to suit both ways

then either leave it on int OR put it back on music and just push the ptt & hold when you want to talk

same goes for cb - which i use the least

later

to

ps - the passenger can do 90 % of the controls - when my wife is along i just let her do it all from the sidecar - i dont even know how most of it works & from over there she can see the display

pps it can be distracting when she plugs in a video game... *sigh*
