air filter and oil
« on: July 09, 2009, 11:18:48 AM »

on my 09 the air filter is leaking oil i know a little is normal but this sprays a good amount on the side of the bike. I'm using a doherty machine power pacc and the HD cover, i had the same setup on my 09 with a 95 inch and just got a small drip on the timing cover every couple hundred miles, this thing needs to be wiped every time i ride. the dealer blames it on the a/c and doherty blames the dealer or the engine, double checked the install and was wondering if you guys are seeing the same.

Have you checked the breather bolts?   :confused5:  Sounds like maybe one or both are clogged.    :nixweiss:  Some of the guys with SERG's changed to the heavy breather and had the wrong breather bolts altogether which made a real mess.     :'(

I run the same A/C on my RK, just a little when I really get on it. Design and crankcase pressure are the biggest contributer to this problem. Looks like it hit or miss, many people have little or no problem, others have threads open complaining about quite a bit of oil coming out. Higher milage bikes I can see, there's more blow by, causing more case pressure.

Do you run your oil at the full mark all the time?  Try letting it get 1/2 quart low and see if that helps some.  Also, you can stick one of those women's panty pads inside the cover and that will absorb some of the oil drips.  I had the same A/C assembly on my 103 and it always blew oil out until it was 1/2 quart low...that was the engine's happy spot.

Sorry...no pics  ;D  I've also heard of people taking a womans nylon stocking and wadding it up in the cover to catch some of the puking.

Is this maybe the same problem that I am having...Stealership told me it was the throttle body a month ago....It loads up with so much oil in the throttle body....you can be driving along and all of a sudden the throttle quits responding....I have to pull over, take the breather element off, and spray the inside of the throttle body with cleaner and then wipe it out.....crank it up and take off......sometimes goes for days without nothing and then all of a sudden maybe happens up to 20 times per day.....Soon as the oil is all cleaned it runs fine again.....
