Tail of the Dragon
« on: July 10, 2009, 10:45:22 AM »

I am planning on riding from Texas up through Gatlinburg and riding the "tail of the dragon" the last week of July.  My Grandson who is 15 will be riding along with me (we will ride two up).  This is my first time to ride the dragon and I am looking for some "tips" on where is the best place to enter the ride, the best place to stay, things to be aware of, etc. etc....Thanks for your help.

I love my SE3 "Screaming Eagle" 105th Anniversary edition.  A pleasure to ride.

Lot's of threads and posts about the dragon but take 129 south out of Maryville, Tn. and you'll be on it after a couple of miles. Watch out for big trucks in your lane going the other way, scads of highway patrol, riders and cars crossing the double yellow in the curves coming at you and sport bikes up your butt trying to get around you. A stop at the Deal's Gap Resort is mandatory for refreshments, t-shirts, stickers, etc.

While there, don't forget about the Cherhola Skyway (sp) which begins /  ends in Tellico Plains. Enjoy.

Oh, go during the week - not the weekends.
