Rediculas Prices Paid on Ebay
« on: July 11, 2009, 01:17:40 AM »

Recently i have been trying to bid on King Tour Packs with speaker pods and back rest and all the fittings .I am amazed at how much people are paying for second hand parts .One Tour Pack went for $1220.00  and another went for $1550.00 I checked with Chicago Harley Davidson who discount parts up to 20 percent when purchased on line .For a Tour Pack with back rest speaker pods and locks was $1245.00  What are these people thinking ? I just hope when i sell something on ebay these guys bid on my stuff

Ahh - ebay. the world's largest continuously operating garage sale. Sometimes the prices paid for stuff make no sense to me either. Stuff that seems like it should move for more doesn't get a bid and some stuff goes for more than retail even if it is still available. Purchased a Clarion car stereo this week and Amazon had the best price on the head unit but ebay had a much better price on the separate GPS unit. Paid $700 for both pieces and they listed for $1k each.

My rule is, anything over $50 I am looking to buy, I always check ebay if for no other reason than to just verify what the going price should be. That's what makes the iPhone so valuable. I can jump on the internet anywhere and do a quick price check. Have saved thousands this way and it puts me in a much better negotiating position in the store if I just show the sales clerk a photo of the same item on ebay for x $'s less than they are selling it for.

I absolutely love it as that's where I get rid of my stuff. I always make sure the auction ends in the middle of a weekend afternoon so the majority of last-second snipers can drive the price up and give the West Coasters a shot as well.

Buying is a crap shoot, sometimes you get a deal, sometimes you aren't going to. Tour Paks seem to be at a premium as most don't want to pay new prices. Then the last-second bidding frenzy drives the prices up close to retail when folks act like it's a competition rather than a buying/business decision. Just gotta love it as a seller. As a buyer, you've gotta be disciplined and do your homework.

Ebay is great if you know what you are looking at.  It continues to amaze me the number of HD items, used, that sell equal to or more than retail.  New stuff even sells at more than retail, not considering it could be bought at 20% off.

I was going to bid on a tour pak lid, that would have to be painted.  They wanted $125 or best offer.  I offered $75 and was immediately declined.  I checked with one of the 20% off dealers.  I can buy a new, unpainted lid for $132, plus freight.

I have also been looking for a an Ultra tour pak.  I agree the prices these people are paying is crazy.  Got lucky picked one up with a little damage for $200.  Not on ebay.

Same here, I was looking for a Tour Pack on Ebay as well....  Once I saw them selling at that $1220 and $1500, I said screw it.  A dealer in Denver had a vivid black in stock for $724 (msrp).   I'll have it in my hands on Monday.   And no wondering if its been fixed, how its been fixed, if the people will ship it in a timely fashion, etc.
