Rewire passing lamps to stay on with highbeam
« on: July 12, 2009, 01:39:45 PM »

Hey I just read through these two threads and the diagram given to rewire the passing lamps to stay on with the high beams does not work for my 2007. It is wired so that there is a common switch for both the spots and the cruise control. Has anyone made this work on a 2007. Here is a picture of what I mean and here is the two threads I referenced. Thanks.

Take a peek at this. http://www.moccsplace.com/images/harley/plamp/passing_lamp.htm

I used Spyder's kit and it works great, great customer service too.

More wires due to the dual switch but the principle is the same. The yellow wire supplies the juice from your low beam circuit. When you switch to high beam there's no current to that switch, ergo, no passing lamps.

If you want to power the lamps off the accessory circuit find the orange wire with the red tracer leading to the accessory switch. I cut the yellow wire leading to my passing lamp switch and crimped on male/female connectors in event I wanted to return to original function for some reason. A State inspection might be one reason...  I crimped a splitter onto the orange/red wire to the accessory switch and ran a jumper with plug-in to the connector on the yellow stub leading to the passing lamp switch.

Egultrac,

Thanks for this tip... took only a few minutes and worked like a charm!

You might want to try this. It's a trick I've used on the last 4 Ultras I've owned giving better night riding visability and it allows your passing lamps to stay on in both high and low beam mode.

HEADLIGHT TRICK

Open the left handlebar switchbox, and free the dimmer switch. There are three wires going to it: blue, yellow, and white. Cut the yellow wire about 3/4" from the switch, and tape or heat-shrink this stub. Now, simply splice the yellow wire onto the blue wire, insulate it, and put it all back together. Be careful not to pinch any wires when you tighten up the switchbox screws. Now when you switch to highbeam both high and low beams will stay on giving you better visability and as long your dash spot switch is turned on your passing lamps will also stay on with either low and high beam too.
