Little help with changing the fluids.

OK guys.  I am usually one of those people that just pay to have the services performed on my cars...and such.  I  have performed oil changes and drain and fills in some transmissions when I was younger but have not fooled around with anything in a long time.  Stay busy at work and seems like there is always something to do around home...I would however like to service my own bike and I don't think that it is that difficult but had some questions.

I have decided after reading here to go with Mobile 1 Syn fluid what weight would you reccomend for each hole?  Amsoil was my 2nd choice.

I have seen the picture that shows the drain plugs and have read all of the fun info about the oil filters getting oil everywhere. 

1) How much oil do I need?  In each hole.
2) If someone would not mind pointing me to the instructions on changing the fluids in the gear box and trans.
3) Also other than the O rings for the oil plug and tran plug a new oil filter and oil is there anything parts wise I need to have on hand?
4) ANY Tips from you service experts!  To prevent  :soapbox:

My suggestion would be to look at your owners manual and see the spec's on your oil system,Primary and Tranny. Fluid levels are listed in there. If you plan on doing this more I would suggest purchasing the Service Manual for your bike and follow the instructions in the Service Manual.

20-50  synthetic in all three holes.  3-31/2 quart in the crankcase, 1 in the primary and tranny.  I used Mobil 1 for years but switched to Amsoil in the SERG.  Desertbear is right about the HD sevice manuals.  They're very good!   :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you.  Will look into getting a service manual.  Figured for the oil change I could find the info here.

Can't go wrong with the Service Manual I think it's 60 bucks or so.

Good to have, it takes you through all the steps for you.

You had to have read all this stuff, volumes/schedules etc when you read your owners manual when you bought the bike? How quickly you forget.

Maybe two holes but in all of my trannies I use only Redline Heavy Shockproof. If not Amsoil 75/140.

Going to check the O.M. but is it 3 to 3 1/2 in primary and 1 each in tran and crank?  So I should by 6 qts.  Would Walmart or a
Advanced auto, pepboys carry the redline shockproof?  Is it that much better than mobile 1?

3 1/2 in your motor (Redline 20/60 motorcycle or Mobil 1 V Twin).  1 in your primary (Redline MTL).  1 in your transmission (Redline Shockproof Heavy)

Service manual, you'll need the torque settings for the plugs, learn to do it right or don't do it, thats what my dad told me. I wouldnt drop any oil until you read the manual, but thats just me

Larry-

I have read the manual.  I have read what it says.  I was at work wife was going to pick up the Harley Filter and the O rings for me.  Just wasn't sure of anything else I should get her to grab was she was there.  I do not want to half a s s the service on my bike that is the point of my post.  So I agree with your dad.  Looking for any info from people that can do this with their eyes closed  :2vrolijk_21:  I have changed oil in cars, trucks, grass cutters, tractors, etc.  I just have not had the "want" to do it or the "need" and would just pay someone to do it and enjoy driving or riding.  I don't mind spending the money getting these things done but I wanted to service my own bike rather than drive a half hour out of the way to have someone else do it.  I am in no rush to do it.  And thank everyone in suggesting the service manual.   

As far as the specific amounts and weights of fluid I will double check everything in the manual before doing the service.  I appreciate everyones advice.   :2vrolijk_21:

Filter wrench. You need one that gets past the crank sensor.
