2009 Springer 110 Issues?
« on: July 15, 2009, 10:23:50 AM »

So, Just purchased a 2009 Springer about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago and have been reading horror stories about the older CVO 110 bikes. I knew about this before I bought the bike and thought that the problem was pretty well sorted out for 09. Well, the heat management system has kicked on a few times on my bike but only when I have ridden for longer distances and then been caught by some stop lights close to the house. So, with all that said my question is, how often does your hms kick on for your 09 springer? Is this normal or am I just being a paranoid parrent after hearing/reading all the other bad stories?

Do you have an oil temp gauge? Might be a worthwhile investment to keep track of what the average temps are, and when it kicks in. Imho, if you are sitting in stop and go traffic, and I can imagine it's damn hot down in MS right about now, it would seem to me it's doing it's job. However, until you can get an accurate read on what the temps really are, it's hard to tell.

Have you done anything to cool your bike down?? IE: changed pipes, had it tuned, etc?? Having the AFR adjusted and letting it breath/exhaust better will help it run cooler and might eliminate the HMS kicking in.

I had the dealer put a set of Vance and Bines big radius pipes on and they were supposed to tune it for that setup. From there I have made no other Modifications to the bike. I think to clarify a little bit I am wodering if people still have the HMS kick on when they do all of the modifications to make the 110 engine run cooler.

mrmagloo, I have a temp gauge on order and hopefully will be here at the end of the week so until then I don't have a good way to check the oil temp.

I had that problem until I took it in for some exhaust work.  I just added slip-ons and a tuner and asked them to run it a littler cooler/richer.  Before this the motor had gotten warm enough to drop that cylinder like it is suppose to.  After the work it has not done it again.  I left the settings the same on the safety.  It even seems like it takes less time to cool off after riding although I am not sure this is really possible.

I would find out from your dealer just exactly what that means.   Chances are, nothing has been done to your air cleaner or ECM to adjust AFR after installing the pipes.

I am considering pulling the trigger on a 09 cvo springer. Since it's mid year and the 2010 models soon to be announce, what can I expect to pay? I spoke to a Chicago area dealer who recently sold 2 new 08' CVO springers for 19k.

That's a heck of a deal. if you could find one for that kind of moeny, I'd jump on it. We have a fellow on here that I think sold his used one with low miles for the low $20's.
