Let's just say the HD has their "you know what" buried in the brown stuff. As long as they can find a way to screw people out of their money they will do it. When we started with them it was different but after a few management changes too many it went down hill. The original kit was everything you need including cables for $459.95. Over the years they stripped it down to the interface only for $459.95 and in all that time (2002 - 2008) we never once raised there cost for the entire kit! We split the cables out of our kit due to two different types being offered and reduced the kit cost. Then added features they had made us remove in the beginning and added several more new ones. Now we can do what we think is needed from customer feedback and so far so good.

Steve:

Please clarify for all of us YES there is a "footprint" left in the ECM when you make any change to the ECM.

As you were kind enough to point out in an earlier post:

TTI Mastertune--

YES you can save the factory setting.

NO you can't "view it" NO you can't "change" it.

YES you can put the factory map back if you choose.

YES the changes will be detectible by the HD tech.

Am I right???

Thanks very much for all of your help!!!

When using Mastertune it is up to you as to the question of it leaving a footprint. If you choose not to leave one then there is none. If you do not then there is.

If you do a restore the ECM with the factory calibration then the bike is just as it was before programming with Mastertune.

If you leave a TTS calibration in your bike and a dealer Tech rides it and it runs great he is going to know something is up, now weather or not he says or does anything about it is his call.

Very true.
A good running Harley with a smiling rider is a dead giveaway that it has been tampered with. You should frown and stall your 35 thousand dollar
bike a couple of times in the parking lot as you bring it in for service. This will seem routine to the dealer tech and no suspicion will arise.

OK, I saved the original to the desktop before loading the MAP from Steve George. On the desktop, it is saved and stored, but if I understand, can't be read... I also saved it in the MasterTune, but can't remember where the file is ... or did I really save it?  Just need some clarity.  Thanks

When you save a base calibration from the bike it goes into the "Upload" directory by default. So that's where it should be unless you changed the path and put it someplace else.

It's not there . . . What would be the standard file name? I did save it on the desktop as well but the file is MTE and not the MT7 version. I can't open it up, but just want to know that if I put it on a thumbdrive, will it be something that the technician use? Could the data for the engine only be specific for my bike? Can another data be used?

Aloha,
Techie

From what I understand, your MTE file is specific to your VIN number and locked to your bike. This file can be "restored" to your bike and it will be like when you picked it up new. or.....OEM.
The data cannot be viewed or changed.
I believe you can move that file to a thumb drive, CD, hard drive, etc. (I have mine on a thumb drive that I keep with the bike).

If you can't find where you stored it, try to do a "global search" of your hard drives.
Go to: "Start, Search, All files and folders"
Type: *.MTE

You should find it on whatever folder or drive it was saved to.

I hope this helps a bit.

Okay- I the saved original is in MTE format, which MasterTune doesn't show... That doesn't matter, correct? But it can be reloaded once selected in the Uploads ... If that is correct, then I'm good ... just couldn't open it... It was in the upload of the laptop, but not visible in the program ... I think because of the format in MT7 and not MTE ....

good job, no you can't open/view it. I rename them just for clarity, like Original ECM settings

GOOD ONE!!!!!

Many, many thanks Steve Cole and Steve George!!!

I'm waiting patiently on my 2010 Rinehart True Duals ('cause I really, really like them and Gerald Rinehart!!!) and then I'll get the tuner (yes I got a complete refund on the SESERT I had).

Regards

Maybe you can give Steve a call:

Let him know what you are looking for on your bike, like dealing with the heat issues, performance, etc.
I'm sure he can answer most all of your concerns.
I hope this helps a bit.
It took a little tweaking on my '09 to get it the way I want it (not necessarily optimum performance).
