Zūmo 550 questions for d00d the Zūmomeister!
« on: July 15, 2009, 06:07:56 PM »

d00d, please can you answer a few queries for me on Custom POIs?

I want to load four:

UK Ferry Ports
UK Speed Cameras
European Speed Cameras
European Harley Dealers

I've worked out that I need to put them all in one folder for POILoader to load them, and they all appear in Extras/Custom POIs when loaded. So far so good. Ferry ports and HD Dealers is fine, so just left with the speed cameras

However.......  I've tried to follow Brian's guide for speed cameras at http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=1564.0 and that's got me puzzling!

1) He says to edit the contents of the .csv files and replace all the @ with a -
Is that necessary, and what exactly does it do?  It's a pain in the buttox if you really do need to do it, because the CSV files are updated every month, and rather than just the 5 he describes, there are now 30 for the UK, and a further 49 for Europe!

2) If I don't do that, and set a manual installation, and set the warning distance for each, does the Zūmo use what I've set, or does it just ignore what I've set manually and use what's in the file?

3) The European files are in km and m, whereas the UK ones are in miles and feet - but POIloader only lets me choose one or the other for ALL the files. Is that correct? (I don't think this is a big deal - I can still set the proximity warnings in feet for the European warnings)

4) Brian talks about using custom MP3s for the proximity warnings, rather than the default Zūmo beep - that would be great.
His guide says "I have included my own self created icons/mp3s files if anyone wants to use them (Right click and Save Target As) .." but I can't see the MP3s on that page - am I going blind??? (He says the files that you download contain the MP3s, but they don't - BMPs and CSVs only).

5)  If I CAN find the custom MP3s, he and others talk about POILoader letting you assign them as Proximity alert sounds for your Custom POIs (in this case, the varying types of speed cameras), but I can't see that option anywhere when I'm loading the POIs to the Zūmo.  Does that option no longer appear?  Or does it only appear if there are MP3 files in the custom POI folder?

Thanks in advance d00d! :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Ok, I'll try to answer (those that I can) your questions...

1. I've never loaded (fooled w/any files) that were in *.csv format all the POI's I've loaded have been in *.gpx format. So really can't give any information about that other then to follow the instructions given.

2. If you choose manual setting and specify the distance then (it has for me in the past when I've used this setting) it will set that for all the POI's in that category. Example I just loaded all the US Harley Dealers and at the same time loaded POI's for Diners, Drive In's, & Dives. POI loader recognized two different sets/categories of POI's being loaded and asked me twice (once for each) what setting/distance I wanted for that specific category of POI's.

3. I've only used the "feet" option so I can't say what it will do.

4. Have never assigned custom sounds (MP3's) for alerts so can't help you there. The link you gave to the Zumo Forum I don't see any attachments w/that post, and when I tried a link in that thread to pocketgpsworld I didn't see anything there to download either. You're probably better off sending a PM to the author of that thread for more assistance.

5. Since I've never loaded custom sounds I can't confirm or deny that if MP3's are in the selected folder POI Loader will give you an option to load them.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help when you do find out more please come back and share your findings w/the rest of us you've sparked my interest now. :)

Answer is, if you have an MP3 with the same name as the custom POI, it's assigned automatically.  :2vrolijk_21:

Ok, I now have a custom MP3 for H-D Dealers and was wondering if I just put it in my MP3 folder on the Zumo or do I add it to the (POI) folder when I load the POI's and the POI loader takes care of it?

You need to put it in the POI folder when you load the POIs and the loader takes care of it, d00d.  Remember it must have an identical name to the POI that it's associated with. (Just the different .mp3 extension, obviously)

I thought that I had once played with proximity alerts and they really slowed down the system to the point it would not redraw the maps.  Maybe that was on my 2730.  Do you know if these affect your unit response?

I haven't noticed that either, but I set my proximity alerts rather close so I don't get the annoying alerts for long periods of time.
