PCV with AutoTune and wideband sensors vs TTS
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:51:44 AM »

I just called my local performance shop to get my CATless headers installed and a tuner put on the bike.  He was strongly pushing me to go with the PCV with autotune feature and wideband sensors.  He had not used a TTS MasterTune before.  So, my question is, which is better?  I know a lot of you use the TTS and it seems to work very well for you.  Is it worth the extra money to go with the PCV?  Can the TTS use wideband sensors?
I have tried to read through all of the threads but I did not see one that had a direct comparison of the PCV and the TTS.  If I missed a thread, please point it out to me.  Thanks.

Sounds like you're not tuning the bike yourself and your tuner is unfamiliar with TTS.... do you want your bike to be the guinea pig that he learns it on. :nixweiss: I wouldn't.

Sounds like your tuner is a PC5 dealer and is going to make a lot of money out of you.
With TTS you can do it yourself it is easy and the results are not far off a good dyno. I am sure Steve from TTS will reply and explain why you dont need to waste money on wideband sensors with TTS.

I guess I would be tuning it myself if I went with the TTS.  When I called him my intention was just to have him install the new headers since he is a dealer for Jet-Hot and I could have him coat them and then install them.  I figured I would install the TTS once he was done with the headers.  He started asking me about what tuner I was going to use.  He is certified for Thundermax and PowerCommander and told me about how they had recently done a bagger with the PCV, after engine and exhaust mods (he listed a lot) he increased HP and Torque by 20 and still got 50mpg.
I admit I do not understand all of the technical spec's and how a tuner can average deltas outside of closed loop, but it seemed like wideband sensors would preclude the tuner from having to do that.  Maybe this is one of those times where I am getting too hung up on "better" instead of "good enough" for my needs.

Considerations you may want to take into account.

On a trip not all dealers want to work on bikes that carry a piggy back ecm
It is an add on that sits on top of your ECM that could go bad.

Fullsac already has a map for you when you use his baffles and get the TTS from him.   You will be really close and may not need a tuner at all.  If you want perfect then by all means get a tune as every bike is just ever so slightly different, but what is close enough.

May save you 250-500 dollars on the tune.

TTS allows you to save your factory map and put it back in, it can also modify your ecm with no piggy back items and these are the guys who made the original Screaming Eagle Race Tuner we all used until 08 when the fly by wire came out.

I would try it without the tune and see how you like it using the TTS and Fullsacs map then go from there.

If you are just installing the catless header and fullsac baffles you dont need the auto tune PCV. I am running a map I downloaded from here and my bike runs great. My PCV was only $300

When I add cams I will add the auto tune, hopefully it will adjust.

Maybe it's just me, but when I hear these sort of claims............BIG RED FLAGS!!!! LOL
