I agree with both of you in regards to how they are "inspecting" the fuel filter my question would be is this an industry (H-D) standard for performing this task. :nixweiss:

Maybe some members could check w/their dealers and ask how the fuel filter is checked during the 25k service to see if this is indeed the standard way of doing it.

The service manual says to REPLACE the filter @ 25K.

I just had this done during my 25k service and asked the SM how they "inspect" the fuel pump per the service interval suggestion and was told they hook a gauge up to the fuel line and test the pressure. If the pressure is within spec then the filter is ok.

Jim,
Just checked my '04 Touring  Models Service Manual and it says "I" (Inspect) also says the same thing in the owners manual. :nixweiss:

Shhh, don't tell anyone this will be our secret........ But what I've been doing is they have this trailer that you can put the front wheel of the bike on, and the back wheel is on the road. I've been using that to tow my bike around just to run the mileage up... would hate for people to think I really ride. :nervous: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Gary, how long of an extension cord do you use to keep the battery tended plugged in while you pull it around like that?  It's not going to log miles without the switch on and I know you don't like dead batteries ::) .

I've got an DC/AC converter hooked up in my cage and I just plug it into that and don't need a really long extension cord. :2vrolijk_21: :huepfenlol2:

Hey DAWG, do you buy those filters by the case?  What do you have to pay for one? About $70.?   :nixweiss: spyder

I went to the dealer last night and was looking at the part's list breakdown and on a 08 SEUC the setup is very different at getting to the fuel filter. No screws just a round tank gasket and fuel filter and o-rings on filter. Has anyone with a 08 SEUC changed there filter and if you did what issues did you run into?

yes...since the 6 gallon tank...getting to the fuel filter is a LOT easier as is the "I"nspection of the fuel filter.
Still a lot of plastic in there and still some delicate parts...so if you have sausage fingers...you might want to consider paying the Hunderd Dollars to get it replaced or you may end up with a broken fuel pump or damaged paint.   :o

Oh...and please put the stoggie down when doing this.... :sauer005:

I do not think that having good pressure means that flow is adequate which is what a bad filter would influence.  Actually, the more restrictive the filter the more pressure would increase.  Pressure test actually is for the pump and fuel pressure regulator.

Well being that I always have a stogie fired up I am going to adhere to this good advise!! I am going to give it a try whenever my dealer calls me with the filter they had to order for me???? They had the rubber gasket but not the filter.
